Well tonight I had to play against my sons.
It was so tense and nervous.

I can't say it was enjoyable
my 15 year old son beat me 3-0, but he is much better.
my 20 year old son beat me from 2 down, 11-9 in the fifth, im a lot higher ranked than him.

It is so odd playing against family in proper matches.

LOL

It is odd, mog1111, playing against a family member even in informal matches with a gently used crapbat against your brother or your nephew.  Both my brother and nephew are good athletes and do not take losing lightly, especially to a finesse guy like me (they're both contact guys, my brother a rugby player for Warwick University in England and my nephew fourth best wrestler in the state of Ohio in the 145 lb. division for three? straight years [at least two]).

My nephew, a lefty, could have been a pretty good player (very nice backhand) had he stuck to pong, and my brother, probably a solid 1200 though never having played in a USATT tournament), had a nasty Seemiller backhand push and forehand kill.  Damn shame he decided to become a lawyer.  USA Table Tennis could sure use a few thousand milligrams dose of his competitiveness.

Get used to it.  It's a real thrill for the kids to finally beat the old man.  I was a wrestler and my kids were wrestlers.  When the beat me it hurt mentally and physically.  I was proud of them.

yes my youngest son has been better than me for 12 months.
my older son has always preferred football, but now his brother is good he does not want to be the third best table tennis player in a family of three table tennis players

I agree though its actually good when you're kids get better than you at something

Im a little confused. Did your kids start playing after you, before or at the same time?
I have seen parents take up TT after their kids start training, so it is not that unusual.

There's a teenager whose dad is a coach and a former pro player in India (National team member I believe). Lucky kid!

I have played for 36 years with a gap in my teens. 15 year old is in his 3rd season. 20 year old has played a bit for fun for about 6 years.
the little one kicks my proverbial
I should not lose to the big one yet as he is a recreational player really.

When I took up TT in the late nineties (after a long break) I basically had no one to practice with. So I started to teach my 11yo the with a view to me an him having some good games during his teanagerhood. Unfortunately, by the time he was 12 he beat me and I've never taken even a game off him since.Cry
