Title says it all. My friend is looking to start TT (He is a total beginner and has almost no knowledge on TT), and he wants to play J-Pen, a la Ryu-Seung-Min (I told him it's very hard, but he insists). He needs to buy a paddle though, and we're looking $40 USD max. Maybe up to $45, but definitely below 50 dollars. I can't really find any paddles that seems to be decent though for that price, so I'm here and asking for help. I would GREATLY appreciate it if you guys could help, because I spent an hour searching the Internet. I really don't want him having to buy some Butterfly Addoy premade J-Pen cause they suck. No offense, but they really do. I don't care if it's a decent pre-made or an actual custom setup, as long as the price is below $45 USD, and it's a decent J-Pen setup. Thanks! And it MUST be SPECIFICALLY A JAPANESE PENHOLD SETUP. I also informed him about what Chinese Penhold is, and he is NOT interested in playing an RPB style or just a one-sided C-Pen style. I know that what I'm asking for may be unrealistic (lol, very), but if any of you guys do have an answer, it would mean a lot.

Also, I apologize if I posted in the wrong section, because I'm not very active here, and I don't really know a lot.

Also, am I being too paranoid if I'm worried about posting something like this and getting a lot of backlash?

Nittaku acute r: http://tt-japan.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_7&products_id=1202 and friendship 729 fx should be a decent beginners setup for Jpen.

This blade might be a good starting point:

J pen blades are not common and not cheap. Good question. No need to get "bashed". That said getting bashed on this board is really not so bad....there are far worse out there.

I think Kokutaku D40 may be a good choice, 34.53 usd (plus shipping tough....)

It is a 9mm 1 ply Hinoki blade made by one of the most famous brands on jpen market. I didn't play with this blade, but if were looking for a low price Jpen I would probably get this.

There are many affordable JPen blades on AliExpress (search Japanese penhold table tennis on there). For your budget it is worth considering.

 - You can find affordable rubbers that will be good for your friend from US suppliers, so I will be focusing on blades.  I don't play JPen, and haven't tried these blades.  But I can give a shot at helping narrow options down based on the following considerations:

- Square head: traditional + like RSM.
- In general, people recommend all wood blades for beginners.  (If this isn't true for JPen, hopefully someone will point it out.)

($15) Yinhe 985
($25) Yinhe J-1 (1 ply ayous)
($25) Sanwei R1 (3 ply hinoki)

Hopefully this can give you somewhere to start - and I'm sure other folks here will have more helpful pointers.
