Gustaf Ericson is pretty tall thus can cover lots of ground. Twiddle his paddle well, very strong back-hand. Looks like he is still young, should have more room to improve.

Ahh yes 400 points on a worse ranking system then the ittf one lol. the one where Yan An has been over XX for about a year or more... or where shang kun is ahead of LGY ratings centeral is full of these discepancies for example timo behind JSH? i am aware tis more accurate in terms of rough rating than ittf but ittf explicitly states participation is a huge factor in points what excuse does ratings centeral have for putting a B tier cnt above all but 1 A tier cnt for huge amounts of time
however i never said he was good enough to BEAT filus, but good enough to play in tournies against him the same day drinkhall is good enough to play ma long. He wont win but he can sometimes play his way into a position against a super elite player. Because in my estimation to get a game against a pro you must be pretty good.

Perhaps not surprising, he's much better known on OOAK forum, where defenders/pips players seem to hang out. Even has dedicated thread that is 7+ years old:

His rating has been the same for years.. He did peak over 2400 on ratingcentral but he is back down to 2200's.. I'd say due to the plastic ball... It was horrible for players of his style
2200 on Ratingscentral is probably over 2400 here but I may be wrong...

Fatt's right about the twiddling - it's hypnotically good. Playing against him must be a very anxious experience, trying to predict the next pattern of play.

The video was only highlights of his matches. Only a few points each game. He's fun to watch, but some of the scores were one sided not in his favor. A very high risk player who looks spectacular when he wins the point, but probably not so spectacular when he misses. It appears that he's been at the same skill level for a few years, so not the fault of the plastic ball.

I looked at some of his results and would comfortably bet he's over 2600 (or, was, seems he is less active nowadays) based on names I recognize.
Keep in that mind that players such as Adar and Sharon Alguetti (2600+ USATT) are rated below 2000 on RatingsCentral. It's just too all over the place to guess, you have to look at results versus known quantities.

Ratingscentral seems to underrate players below 2400 rating and rate players above it close to USATT..
He Zi Wen is about 2700 on Ratingscentral while he is about that on USATT rating too...
However, I have a friend in Austria that has a approx. 1500 Ratingscentral rating
but every time he comes to visit me in the US, he beats just about all 2000 players, most of the 2100 players and some 2200 players, so it's safe to say that he plays about 2100 - 2200 level... That's over 600 points difference to his Ratingscentral rating..
There's also another Austrian player who is rated about 1650 on Ratingscentral... I played him in 2012 when I was rated in the 2300's (and he was rated in the 1800's on Ratingscentral at the time)
and he completely destroyed me. I made like 4 - 6 points per game.. He plays at least 2400 level. I have to say that he plays a style that is very uncomfortable for me as he attacks with long pips from his backhand and has a great forehand smash..
However, there are other players in the higher rating range whose Ratingscentral Rating is close to their level in USATT rating..

For English viewers, the second lot of players in the green/yellow shirts were representing Nottingham University. The first player was Adam Harrison and the second player, Danny Reed. Danny has represented England seniors in the past and was up there with Drinkhall before injury held him back.

Bennborn is a good player but he did lose to Jim Butler at the 2015 US Open. His US Rating is 2542..
I would think that Bennborn and Ericson are close in playing level..

Bennborn is a classic defender who never attacks, the Swede, I am sure is a more dangerous player with his kill shots. You can’t give him a high ball or a neutral ball.

Gustaf has a nice game! He was giving Ruwen some trouble with the BH loop. But does anyone know the score for that match? It's not listed on ratingscentral.
I also think Gustaf has two main weaknesses. First, his chopping game is not steady enough. This becomes a liability as he faces higher levels. Second, his use of the BH loop should not be so constant. That's what the FH loop is for and his is not that strong at that level. So more FH pressure, steadier chopping, and keep the BH loop for surprises and I think he can reach a higher level.

He's unorthodox and entertaining. If his FH is better, he'd be even more incredible :D If I play pips someday, I'd like to play this style. What kind of pips does he use?

Really fricking good. 2550-2600 minimum. I am putting him just a little higher than Pushblocker rated him.
By the way one irony is that people complain that TT is so homogeneous now in this era with 40+ balls, and yet when we see someone who is very very different, some people think it is ugly.

Back when I plaid with pips for a year or so I learned to twiddle. I got pretty good in hitting flat with OX pips back then and a hard blade helps with that. Perhaps, I'll set up a blade for that and give it a shot. It will take a little work to get used to twidling again, but it is doable.
