I have received my first custom blade! Haven't played it yet. Happy to share. It made to be displayed!

I was deciding between SP90 or one of those custom ones ... decided to go for custom made first. Oh boy, I love it. Picture worth thousand words, here you go:

Looks really nice. How much did it cost? What is it made of? Is it 1 ply hinoki?  Does the blade maker have a website? Will you play it or just display it?

According to maker it's 500yo kiso. I am in two minds for now whether to play it or not. However it is made to be played. Very solid. Also you can't go wrong with 9mm Kiso, right?

Real beauty there fmarek. Please do play with it and let us know how it works out.
And for more info, I found this.

https://www.facebook.com/SIAMPINGPONGHANDMADE/

They appear to be quite cheap and affordable. I am quite tempted by their 10mm Jpen. It is a beauty!

Good price for a 1 ply Kiso hinoki although the grain on the left side is somewhat wide. The wood looks more similar to the Miyabi than the DS90. I chatted with the maker some time ago when his prices were much higher and shipping to USA was $31. I found my beloved 77g DS90 shortly after.

I also felt that the grain was a bit wide in some places for a 500-year-old wood plate. But I guess we can account the number for a bit of marketing and sales spiel. Even then, the wood is sure to be a couple of hundred years old since a very young tree would have really wide grain and may also not be able to provide a plate broad enough to manufacture blades.

I still think they are amazing blades and want to buy that Jpen.

I asked a custom blade for him on october.

He first said that it would take 5 days to make it.
Well, after dozens of delays, it passed more than two months for him to finish the blade (that is the one from picture above, he is selling it now. Yes, that one was supposed to be my blade, but the did the handle differently from what I specified, and he said he would make a new one again.

He said he was going to post the new one yesterday, but today when I asked the shipping number the asked my adress (??). But he has my adress since october, when I paid him via paypal...

I hope the keep his word this time. I'm already at the limit of my patience...from 5 days to 83 days...that is A LOT.

Yes you need to be patient with the custom blade makers. Back in last March I was put on a blade maker's wait list for 4 months and I am still waiting...patiently.

The problem is, he told me it would take 5 days to make it...and he would start working on the blade on the same day (he said that right after he received the payment). There wasn't any wait list, supposedly.

I'm angry because he postponed to make my blade MANY times. But now, since he seems to have completed the blade (I'm still waiting for picture to confirm though...) and is so close to ship it, I will be a bit more patient and wait a bit more.

Edit: only now I realized that 4 months passed long ago. I can feel your pain. But have you paid him? I would be ok I guess if I still hadn't paid Sittiho, but the problem is that he is with my money since the beginning (october).

Edit 2: he shipped the blade. I'm more relieved now, almost 3 months has passed...now I just have to wait and hope to the blade be the way I specified, since he didn't showed me a picture of the finished blade...but I feel better now Smile

Blade already was made at a time I payed. It was not built to my request. Otherwise I would asked to put some gem stone into the handle and also would go for box case with red lining.

Still happy to grab the first one from Lamun collection

It didn't get that far. I was waiting for his OK and spec discussion before coming to a price agreement, which never came.

AmiciSumus, looks like handle is made of stone or plastic. But I believe it is some kind of wood composite, right?

How does it play?

Also, I noticed funny categorisation. Yours is marked as Off+, while mine is Off. However mine is a little thicker 9.5mm and 1g heavier. Hm...

The FL handle is some thicker than I am used too.
I did put on Xiom Omega 7 tour and Mizuno Q4 and had a 2 hours training.
One thing I notice is that it is heavy, but good to play with :-)

There are absolutly NO plastic ... If you follow the Link will you see all the pictures of the blade ...
I also have SP90 and I think that is playing better ;-)

That would appear to be the case yes. A lot of businesses have a storefront on FB and nowhere else now. It woks considering one third of the global population is on Facebook.

Interesting combination! Hinoki on one side and alc(no wood?), hinoki/t5000 (no wood?). I'd love to see what they look like and how they play.

No,
Blade 1 hinoki - alc - hinoki - alc - hinoki
Blade 2 hinoki - t5000 - hinoki - t5000 - hinoki

Like that, it was implied. lol

I've tried some alc blades in the past, but they weren't hinoki. I've never tried any T5000 blades, except for a brief 5 minute hit with a Timo Boll T5000 a few years ago. I've tried a bunch of different outer wood plys on different blades over the years. I've come to the conclusion that hinoki is the most suitable outer wood for my game and my technique. I want to see how some other types of synthetic fibers compare to Zetro Quad which I'm currently playing and has been my main blade for about 3 years. Also, his blades just look really nice. I had to have one. lol

No offense to eric's blades, but the ALC fibers look way too rough on the finishing.  The fibers are frayed, reminds me of the ALC fibers that I've seen in Chinese blades.  The "t5000" carbon fibers don't look to be T5000.  T5000 are much higher quality and thicker carbon fibers.  Those carbon fibers on your blade reminds me of the ones that are found in Ma Lin Extra Carbon, very thin.

I wouldn't worry much about the grain that is usually over rated anyway. As for the finishing I would bet its probably Kevlar instead of Vectran. They play similar but Kevlar is much tougher to finish. You can always seal the edge of the blade/frayed fibers and lightly sand them smooth without sanding into the wood . ZLC will do the same thing and that's why Butterfly sands their blade to final shape instead of routing them out.

I didn't seal them. I'm not sure if he put any kind of varnish or seal on it already or not? I stopped using that water based glue. It totally destroys your blades and rubbers. That stuff is nasty. I just use Haifu Glue, it doesn't destroy the blades like that.

I've had a chance to play with both blades a bit. They are both extremely nice blades. Extremely well made. He really is a master blade maker. The handles are very comfortable and extremely smooth. Both blades are pretty fast. I equipped both blades with identical rubbers for testing. T80 on forehand and Baracuda on backhand.

The T5000 blade weighs about 92 grams. With rubbers on, the blade feels pretty well balanced (not head heavy). I hadn't tried any T5000 blades before, but I suspected this to be the blade I was going to like out of the two. I normally prefer heavier blades around 90 grams and this one has a slightly thicker handle than the ALC blade, which I also prefer. After finally testing it, I was surprised how much different T5000 is than ALC or ZLC. The T5000 gives the blade quite a hard feel and it doesn't have much dwell time. The biggest surprise to me is throw and the trajectory of this blade. The blade itself is quite low throw and the trajectory is a lot flatter than I'm used to. Smashes and loop kills are deadly with this blade, but I'm having hard time making heavy spin. Slow spinny loops are difficult for me with this blade. I also had some trouble getting used to serving with this blade. While I had some trouble with my spin game, I was surprised that the blade was strangely very good around the net. I also suspect that this blade would play very well with short pimple. I will give that a test in the future.

The ALC blade weights about 82 grams, which is lighter than I usually prefer. With the rubbers attached, it feels slightly head heavy. Within the first 30 seconds of hitting, I instantly liked this blade. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed playing with this blade. The feeling of it is not so different from my usual blade Zetro Quad. I have two Zetro Quads, one at 92 grams and one at about 85 grams. The one at 92 grams is much crisper, faster, and spinnier than the lighter one. This blades feels like an upgrade from the better of my two Zetro Quads. It's a little bit more crisp, a little bit faster, and as spinny, if not spinnier. The control is also super high and the feel is really good. It has a lot of dwell and loops have a really nice arch with a lot of safety. Counterlooping is a dream with this blade. I'll be making this my main blade now.

ericd937, thanks for this good detailed review. I asked this guys if he has 5ply kiso blade for sale. I'd love to own one Off- for playing. Cannot find any 5ply kiso blades to buy at all.

No problem! I played again tonight with the ALC blade. Honestly, I couldn't be happier with the blade. I would also sell the T5000 blade if anyone is interested. Its a good blade and I'm sure it would suit someone's taste well. I could play with it, but the ALC hinoki blade fits my game much better.

Also, he was very responsive every time I contacted him. Just ask him to make what you want. I'm sure he would do it.
