What do you think about modifying a CPEN into a SHAKEHAND blade?

Some might ask, "Why would you bother?" Well . . .

1. I love my CPEN blade, but now I play SHAKE.
2. I dig the blade, head shape, and size, but the handle is too short.
3. Someone gave me an expensive CPEN blade, but I SHAKE rattle and roll.
4. This blade belonged to my cousin who tragically froze to death at 18,000 feet while climbing Mount
Everest. He left it to me in his will, but I play SHAKE.
5. I have nothing better to do.
6. I play both CPEN and SHAKE and want one racket.

Regardless of the reason, what are your thoughts about this undertaking?

PS. I'm #2.

Very same case here, I used to play Cpen but now I turned to Shakehand grip.
But I don´t play SH with my old Cpen blade because I feel it´s not comfortable, handle is too short. I also could be tempted to turn back to Cpen, what I want to avoid.
So would I put my Cpen blades aside and spend money in new SH blades? No way. This is what I do:

TTNewbie,
Love it!! How did you remove the CPEN handle? I know people do that often, but that is the one thing I never did with a blade. I usually add a piece or sand down.

With a simple cutter and finish with sand. Unfortunately handle is lost when I decide to remove it.

Also, maybe my English isn't good enough, but I didn't get it -did you modify the handle (cause it looks great) or you would want to in the manner shown above?

The area you marked is the gap I usually sand for my index finger in Cpen blades.

Oh, I forgot it's made from C-pen. Now it maker a lot of sense Smile

Also remembered one thing about converting from CPen to Handshake:

I know a guy who glued some cork at the end of the blade. It doesn't look natural or nowhere as good as in  TT newbie case, but the that guy does not care. He didn't play Cpen, he was always SH, he just found that the handle was too short.

So that could be a quick fix solution...

I should see the guy in a week or so (I am recovering from some tendon trauma,s o no TT at the moment Angry ) and if I remember, I'll take the picture, cause the racket by itself is something (it's an old Stiga of some sort (don't remember now)...

Years ago, Hookshot (MYTT/OOAK forum member) glued a piece of ebony on the end of my Dr. Neubauer Special to extend the handle. This provided better balance the blade. I've asked a local woodworking friend to do the same to my Stiga Clipper CPEN, but with lighter wood. I would have asked Hookshot, but he's too busy with his lovely Chinese bride. ;-)

I remember seeing a picture of a blade with the handle extended with what looks like glue from the glue gun.  Looks very nice, but I don't know how you get it to stay on though. f I remember correctly the blade is from roundrobin forum member, but I could be wrong.  You may want to drop him an pm.
