To my deepest surprise and disbelief, Nittaku have discontinued their short pimple rubber Hammond FA Speed which I have been using for the past 7 years. Now, I need a substitution for it. Can anyone recommend me a similar short pips rubber?

You might get on well with Butterfly Raystorm.

Chicho, If you like to hit bang and slam, try 'Blast'. Chip chip. But with too much 'grease', you may get bubbles.

Unfortunately, Raystorm comes nowhere near Hammond FA Speed. Beautry is also discontinued. I tried Victas v>101. It is too slow compared to Hammond FA Speed.

Joola tango is a good option it has a softer sponge than the ultra short pips..good for flipping and blocking hard hits..

I used this before. I would recommend TSP Spectol 21. They are similar the way they play in the game.

? Spectol 21 sponge is softer and needs speed glue. Have you tried Victas V0>103?

Hi Chicho,
You can try the Blowfish+.
I haven't used FA Speed for comparison, but of all the pips I've tried, Blowfish+ is the fastest. Medium soft topsheet with fairly soft and bouncy sponge.
Compared to: Dolphin, Spectol Speed, Spinpips Red/Blue, Victas 102, Waran, 105, Flarestorm II, 802, 802-40, Blowfish (non+), Hexer pips.

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately, Blowfish+ is completely different rubber. I tested it a couple of years ago. The control when hitting slow balls was terrible.

i tried hammond fa speed some time ago. I remembered it as fast but not too spinny good for punchy bh and knuckle serves. which sounds like some kind of spectol to me.. i sympathise. Nothing worse than sp specialist without the right weapon

You dont need a spinny pip to make knuckle serves

Not long term solution, but why don't you buy more sheets of Hammond FA Speed that are still available from online stores? Should be enough to keep going for some years?

An old sheet bough now wont be good in one year

Hi Chicho,
Looking at the Chinese Guoqiuhui.net, there really isn't anything quite like the Hammond...It has the thinnest topsheet base of anything I've ever seen.
Closest (structurally) would be Baxter F1-A, Hexer+ comes second (slightly larger pips), Speedy XD next. All have thicker base than Hammond. Victas 103 seems to have the same sponge as 101, I doubt its any faster.
IMO, a forced switch is more psychological than anything. A slight variation in feel won't completely destroy your game. I have Victas 102, Spinpips Red, and Blowfish attached on 3 of my most used blades, could pretty much play the same with any...

So if he bought for instance 6 new sheets of Hammond FA speed now, they would not be useable in 1 year? How do the store stock the rubbers then? Or is there difference between short pips and inverted rubbers. Just curious as I often buy rubbers from US or Asia and when I do, I prefer to buy a lot at once and I just store them in room temperature. Sorry if off topic.

I have tested F1-A, Hexer+ and Blowfish/Blowfish+. F1-A and Hexer are too slow compared to FA Speed. Blowfish is unpredictable and has poor control when hitting slow balls.
I still cannot find a substitution for Hammond FA Speed. I am getting really frustrated. I am wondering why would Nittaku discontinue one of the best short pips on the market while at the same time the old version Hammond FA which is terribly slow and less spinny is still on their site.

I thnk that booster EV plays like FA speed.several top japan players play with EV , Do you know if pros or high level players in japan are using the new short pips deisgned for plastic ball or the old models like spectol?

Too bad about Hammond FA Speed! It goes so well with hinoki.
VO>103 is too slow for penhold forehand. I think it is intended as a combination rubber, good for defenders and passive players.
Of all the pips I have tried (mostly Japanese brands), I think BTY Flarestorm II plays the most like Hammond FA Speed. Flarestorm II has less control than Hammond FA Speed, but speed and spin are about the same (not too much spin, just enough). I try to stay away from BTY rubbers these days, but if you don't mind the company, it might work for you.
Another option is Spectol Blue, which has a better sponge (harder so more control) than Spectol Red. I also heard that some old guys who keep up the short pips style in Japan are using Joola Express Ultra for the 40+ ball, but I have not tried it yet.
Hope you find something and are able to adjust.

I have played with both and F2 feels more control and spin Fa speed is like a low spin rubber that makes very nasty blocks..also played with spectol blue Beautry is very fast and several top players use it for FH .nittaku has a new rubber called sonic but I m trying moristo Ax and not have tested enough
