Hello people, recently i bought Sanwei Fextra 84-85gr. since it's cheap and EJ in me is working hard lately  . But a problem appeared, i immediately felt in love with it  . I never played with 7 plies wood, but carbons and 5 plies. Actually i tried once in the past Cliper with the old balls, but didn't like it and i'm not a fan of Stiga blades. Another problem with the Fextra - when i changed one of the rubbers there were small wood particles, so the quality of the limba is not so good ofcourse for the money. I don't want to lacquer it as i have experience with that and i'll never do it again. Now i started looking for a better quality blade with same structure limba-limba-ayous-ayous-ayous-limba-limba 6mm thickness and i can't find anything. What i like in it is linearity from low to high speed, close to the net soft receiving serves without worrying too much with what zone of the head to do it (i play with tenergies), fast low spiny pushes for surprise (these were insane because of the accuracy), the spin from the 2 limbas and enough power to finish the point, stability in blocking and punching. The throw is a border line low for me though, but no problem. Better than the too high throw of Innerforce ZLC. If there is not other blade with this composition, thinking about Ludeak, Barwel (what is the top ply?), Koki Niwa wood (but its rated Off+  ). Some others? Korbel SK7 seems too thick.I'll much appreciate your help. Thank you!

Ludeack has limba only at top ply, the rest are all ayous. But since you mentioned Ludeack I suggest Adelie, which has the same ply combination of Ludeack and is thinner (6.2mm). Actually, Adelie seems to be what the old Clipper used to be before Stiga increased its thickness to 6.7mm.

Gewo Aruna Off is a nice 7 ply, slower than Koki Niwa wood/TSP Swat Power and it feels pretty linear to me. Gives you plenty of power when needed but very good in the short game too. It's plies are Limba/Ayous/Ayous/Kiri. -------------  Innerforce ALC, FH: Tenergy 19, BH:EL-P

In other posts people were stating that the top limba wood is lower density than other woods and therefore it may be good to put varnish on it. I got a Fextra blade and used WalMart MinWax clear satin fast drying polyurethane on the entire blade (3 coatings, lightly sanding with 400 sand paper before each coating) before putting the rubbers on. I also made the edges a bit rounder where the fingers touch, with 160 sand paper. The blade looks beautiful now. One key point was to wipe off the excess polyurethane with a cloth (I learned this from some other post). I did the same thing with Yasaka blades. For now I would say that the blade plays beautifully, with more control over the table than say a Yasaka Ma Lin Extra Offensive. Also the $20 from princett.com or $35 from Megaspin/Joola USA is very acceptable for a 7-ply blade. Note that the flared handle is a little thicker than on the Yasaka blades, I think I'll get used to it.

You could try other blades, with a similar composition as Fextra or Clipper .. Huaruite (HRT) Clipper DHS Power-G PG7 Yinhe Purple Dragon (PD) 437

Oh yes, completely forgot about this one ... A well made blade, indeed... Although, I found it to be faster than the Clipper and other similar blades.. The Avalox P700, is another Clipperoid, with good build quality If I'm not mistaken, both these cost more than the other blades mentioned on this thread... perhaps more than even the original Clipper itself..

There is also the Andro Gauzy BL7 which according to there Down Website is only 5.9mm thick. I don't know the exact materials used but it might be worth a try.
