I've always liked to contact the ball about chest height but have recently experimented with contacting it at waist height and it seems a little more natural?

Anyone looked into this before?

The contacting point is the result of either your standing, contacting distance from the table , contacting the ball on different phases.....

Yes that is true, but this is more like the ideal situation, say in a practice session...

Sometimes there are too many variables to really have the discussion as a person's height and how much you bend your knees will make a difference.  Personally I like it to be at the mid-abdominal to chest.

Is your waist, when in striking position, below the net height?  If so I think that is not the ideal position for your run of the mill loop.

However 'taking-the ball-late' letting the ball drop to allow for more brush and spin is certainly something that is effective in game situations.

Yeah you're right, it also depends on the body measurements and how low you are...  I had a look at some training videos and it seems that even within the CNT it's quite different among the players. Ma Long definitely hits the ball lower (relative to his body) compared to other players like Zhang Jike or Fan Zhendong who like to lower their centre of gravity further so the hitting point is often at chest level instead...

regardless of the height, the important thing is contact the ball on your side of the body with variations on timing if you want to hit the ball on the rise, peak of the bounce or when the ball begins to go down.

Have tried it out, a lower contact point (relative to the body) produces much heavier topspin...
