I have been wondering what is the fascination with making a dedicated poster photo and forum thread to all of these relatively no-name young kids who aren't famous enough to be widely recognized on an international forum. Zero context or discussion usually, few of these kids will be known to anyone on the forum due to lack of results or exposure on a visible level. Doesn't make sense to me and seems like an invasion of privacy.

I have been wondering what is the fascination with making a dedicated poster photo and forum thread to all of these relatively no-name young girls who aren't really at any exceptional level yet. Zero context or discussion usually, few of these kids will be known to anyone on the forum due to lack of results or exposure on a visible level. Doesn't make sense to me.
Nicole Deng, pictured above, was #1 in Minicadet Girls (13 and under) in the US last year. At the 2019 US Open in December she won gold in Minicadet Girls' Singles (she was top seed) as well as in Cadet Girls' Teams, and got silver in Cadet Girls' Doubles. I think reaching #1 in your age in the country, winning the US Open championship for your age, and winning gold and silver medals in an age group two years older, is pretty exceptional. She still has a long road ahead if she wants to be an Olympian, but she sure is on the right path. (Disclaimer: I coached her in her matches at the Open. She won anyway.)

That is great. In the grand scheme of an international-based forum though, she is far from a household name so it would be ideal if Charlie Brown posted some context or discussion points to these threads to at least get some conversation going. Like you have done here. However, he has a history of posting, on countless occasions, these poster-style photos of relatively unknown-to-the-public young junior/cadet/minicadet players from the US and Canada, I assume without the consent of parents, with no apparent point to the thread.

I will delete all the images from the "PICTURE" forum...it seems there are some on this forum who don't understand what a "PICTURE" forum is for other than "PICTURES".

There is no need to INSINUATE my LEGAL OBLIGATIONS when it comes to POSTING PHOTOS...i am FULLY AWARE of my rights but it seems people want to have DISCUSSIONS in "THE PICTURE" forum.

That said, I "was" one to embrace promoting the sport and those in it but the responses by some of you "CLUB" players...do you see me asking for money, do you see me asking for credit?

So i will leave you all to carry on talking about gear which is all you think this sport is about.

I have asked Alex to delete my account so you won't have a cluttered forum of discussions in the Picture Forums and where else i have posted.

Later enjoy the forum and Table Tennis?

It is not a legal obligation but more of a common courtesy To the families involved when posting pictures on an international forum especially when it comes to kids who are not well known public figures in the sport. When only a tiny handful of posters here, at most, will know who these kids are, I think the privacy of these people who are not public figures in the sport, should be considered. All ears if you don’t think I am raising a legitimate concern.

I don't think Charlie Brown was showing these pictures in a degrading/demeaning way.  Quite the opposite, actually.  As the title of the thread implies, I believe he did it in the spirit of showcasing potential Olympians.  Would actually be kind of neat to have early photos in the forum for posterity if/when they become stars imho.

Nobody said anything about the photos being degrading or demeaning.

My point is that unless the photos are tasteless, I think it's a good thing to promote potential future table tennis stars.

Hi,

I strongly support the elevation and motivational efforts in all their forms towards the purposes of youth encouragement in the sport and thank those so engaged.

Thanks.

If OP's goal is really to "promote the sport", I don't see why my original request to provide some information or context to these lesser-known young players was met with so much disdain.

I think what idk is saying is that there is nothing wrong with giving us a picture, but what I would like is information along with the picture.  I enjoy reading about upcoming players, even if they don't become stars.  Larry's information is what I want to see, with or without a picture.

Hi Charlie,

If you have any more unknown but in your opinion up and coming youngsters whom in your opinion may one day become well known, please continue postings. Good if you could do a write up to introduce though. Thks for the initiative.

If Charlie Brown found  those pictures online because somebody else posted them, what's the problem with linking to them here? I do not see any rule broken but it's a fine line because kids are involved. In doubt, I'd go with idk however if the kids are already exposed somewhere else, where is the harm?

Charlie Brown and pongfugrasshopper have a point too and that's why I can't decide.

If a decision is to be taken, it is above my head.

Each parent's viewpoint is different, and I respect that.  I have a very young daughter (who tells me gymnastics is way better than table tennis).  If she was featured in a TT forum thread titled "America's Future Olympians" and the photo was in a *public* setting and was *respectfully* done, even if the OP did not request my permission, I would not not be upset.  I would be proud.  And I'm quite sure she would get a kick out of it as well.  That's my personal opinion.

And I'm fine with OP not having the bio on the subject (thanks LarryTT for providing some), but simply saw a young player play and thought wow, she could be an Olympian one day.

I've seen a little of Nicole's play. I'm impressed with her skill and fitness level to initiate and sustain an attack. That is, the footwork/stamina to reposition when the ball is returned and the mindset to continue attacking. It should be noted, however, that Nicole lost to Rich DeWitt (3-1) in February of this year. In my opinion, she needs to avenge this blemish to be considered a future Olympian.

THough I am new but I do not understand this thread.
I am not sure what the rules are for an international forum like this ?

Who is the person we are talking about ?
I only saw a picture of a skater or something . No picture of girl playing table tennis
Is she a "public figure" ?  If yes,  I guess it can be posted
(Honestly I do not even know what a "public figure" exactly means, Just asking)
Also I wonder if public figures also have right to privacy

A poster (Charlie Brown) posted a picture of a young girl who is a very good player, that later was deleted.  Others asked that instead of just posting a picture, give us some information about the player.
