Hi Tommy, Just wondering - If you want a stiff, hard blade, and you're not much into looping/dwell-time, then wouldn't a 7-ply blade be more suitable ? Anyway, some stiff'ish/hard'ish 5-ply blades that come to mind, at this point are
Oooh... an after-thought - Stiga Nostalgic Allround - Tried this one, just before the lockdown, and it felt quite nice ... Also, saw this blade naked, before the rubbers were glued on ... An absolute beauty... |

I tried several 7-plys, and for some reason they don't work out . . . I've owned dozens of Clippers, a few P700s, Ludiack, etc. I played my best with all-wood, stiff, 5-plys like Stiga Ebenholz V. Thanks for the suggestions!! ------------- For More Info, PM or Email me: [email protected] |

If you want DEF+ up to OFF- blades, then it is hard to get a stiff 5-ply allwood blade. Most of these blades are quite elastic / nearly stiff at best. I would say the discontinued BTY Mazunov but it is heavy and OFF+ (above your requirement) A bit stiff ALL blade will be Stiga Allround NCT. A stiffer OFF blade will be Stratus Power Wood or Xiom Offensive S or Yasaka Extra Offensive. But they are faster than your OFF- requirement. "Nearly stiff" OFF- such as Dicon will be quite elastic for 40+ plastic ball. They used to be nearly stiff with 38 mm ball. ------------- Blade : Just wood FH : black rubber BH : red rubber |

My speed range might seem odd . . . it's because I can provide power (DEF/ALL) or back off a little (OFF) if needed. I've used so many rackets over the years . . . easy to adjust power-wise. But I need solid, stiff and not too thick. I guess I could simply go up to OFF+ and adjust my rubbers. Wish I could play with 7-ply, but for some reason I cannot feel the ball with thicker and more plies. ------------- For More Info, PM or Email me: [email protected] |

I just checked . . . they are still available, but average over 100g. You weren't kidding when you said, "heavy."

| Try a Butterfly Diode V. This is the blade that replaced the Joo Se Hyuk blade. You’ll have to see if the lightest one a retailer has can end up under 90 grams, but it’s a great 5 ply that is hard and relatively stiff. Mine is at 96 grams but is balanced. Of course with the larger head size, max thickness and heavy rubbers can weigh it down. |

Butterfly Diode V looks sweet, and it's $100, not $300. Reviews claim it has more flex than Joo Se Hyuk, but I'm sure a little oversealing can fix that. ;-) Unfortunately, that might also reduce the feel a little. ------------- For More Info, PM or Email me: [email protected] |

I've played with this blade a couple of time ... quite nice.. It's less stiff, when compared to JSH, but is still stiff ... The one I played with had an XIOM Vega Pro, and Bomb Talent with a very thin sponge, but still felt like I was playing with a slab of cement .. I was informed that the Diode V weighs at 90+gms, on average... |

I'm using a Donic Appensnapper now. Burn OFF- is intriguing, but the control rating is average. I'm not worried about the SP on FH, but wonder if I need to adjust my search to accommodate LP on BH.

Stiga are my favorite mass-produced blades. They do not have the finishing quality of Butterfly, Nittaku, etc., but they play really well. Some blades you might be able to get away w/o sealants, but not Stiga . . . the top-plies are often stuck in the removed rubbers. I don't mind as I seal blades.
