It's over 60 years of US embargo.
If WTTC 2023 was bad, then WTTC 2021 wasn't that far off.

Oh my Amy... 4-3 against Adriana in the semi (11-9 in game 7), 4-3 against Bruna in the final (12-10 in game 7) - not bad

Wow, that is huge! Congrats Amy! I haven't been following this, but looks like I need to. Maybe being the top female in the MLTT draft gave her extra motivation.

I forgot to mention that in both these matches Amy saved matchpoints. She was coached by Mark Hazinski, by the way.
Is she a full-time student this year or focusing more on table tennis in view of the Olympics perhaps?

Being Amy is at UCLA, it would seem to be possible to do a light but full time schedule this semester and still do quality training part time. Then go part-time or take the spring off to go hard until the Olympics. By winning the Pan-Am championship she got the "GOLDEN TICKET" to Paris - unless that changed.
BTW - I think HAZ is a great match coach for Amy, he is quietly intense, attentive to details and a thinking guy.

Things are going to get really interesting rankings wise for Adriana, Bruna, Lily and Amy come Nov. 7 when the 2022 Pan Am Champs points expire. When I get time, I'll compute the rankings points (or someone else on the forum can do it as well). I think Amy will surpass Lily though it may also depend on tournaments between now and then. This will make things interesting for https://mytabletennis.net/forum/kanak-jha-suspended-for-missed-doping-tests_topic92706_post1136183.html?KW=grant#1136183" rel="nofollow - USATT's Performance Pathway Grant I mentioned a while back .

Funny how they don't mention when they award those grants or the performance windows (dates) they use for deciding who gets the grants. $11200 for either Lily or Amy can go a long way if you plan things correctly. You can get to events where the points are good but the talent is less! You'd think winning NCTTA, USATT and the Pan AM championships inside a calendar year would tilt the table a bit for Amy.

I think Amy only played 6 tournaments sofar this year so she has a good chance to end the year inside the top 25

Now that I think about it, I don't think we have to wait until Nov 7 to see the changes because I believe you're only allowed the max result of your Continental Champs/Cup/Games. If so, on Tues, we'll see Lily drop out of the top 50 [Edit: Lily will drop down 8 or 9 spots]. Amy jumps to around 32. Bruna move up to around 31 24 since she did poorly at last year's Pan Am champs and made the finals this year. Adriana will remain the same, but the large gap between her and Miu Hirano will be much smaller. Interesting times.

Amy fared really well against FTW, Adriana, Zhang Mo, Liu Jia, and junior CNT players (4-3 Kuai Man in 2019). If you ask me, she has potential to reach the top 30 if she plays more. |

Amy is the new leader by rank (#31) for the USA. We won't feel the full effects until Nov 7 when the 2022 Pan Am Champs points expire. Lily and especially Adriana have lots of points expiring then. Adriana will need to do well at upcoming tournaments; otherwise, she runs the risk of falling out of the top 16 needed for the WTT Finals in December.

By Nov 7 the Pan Am Games will have been played, which also award 500 points to the winner. So Lily or Adriana could rebound if they win there, whereas Amy won't have anything to gain in points (since only one continental result counts). That kind of volatility is unavoidable with the current system - keeps the players on edge and chasing points, I guess that's the goal.

Thanks, I didn't notice the Pan Am games. Amy will still want to stay ahead of Lily if she is aiming to get a big chunk (worth $11,200) of the Pathway Grant. Adriana probably needs to either at least make the Finals of the Pan Am Games or do well at WTT tournaments to stay in the top 16 for a spot in the WTT finals. If not, there's a number of really good players looking to break into the top 16 such as Miwa Harimoto, Kuai Man, Fan Siqi, Jia Nan Yuan, etc.

Do you know how that Pathway Grant is working currently and into next year? Can they re-allocate funds to take into account that there are now 2 women in the top 50 and 0 men, for example? At what dates is funding re-evaluated based on rankings?
