CNT sends 12 players, Most are B team and Junior team though. However, Sun Wen, Who has beaten Fan Zhendong twice in CTTSL, is included. Should be a great tournament.

W.S. - similarly ...
Great "gift", especially for Europeans ....Embarrassed
In any case, for Japanese players, the “easy walk” did not work out ....Unhappy

Although Mima Ito has nothing to lose ...No points needed...Participation in Portugal for her and coaches - working off technical and tactical tasks, no more ....

But Hina Hayata even feel sorry for ....She needs points ....

Very interesting ....China strengthens its delegation ....W.S. - additionally declared L.S.W., C.M. and Vang Manyu ....

(Unhappy Hina HayataUnhappy .. She apparently will have to play qualifications ..... Plus top Chinese women .....)

That’s interesting because those three don’t need points. I would have expected He Zhuojia and Sun Yingsha to enter as they are not seeded players at platinum events yet and would be favorites to win if those three did not enter.

Yes....
It is curious that Mima Ito also did not need points in Portugal .....Working off techniques and tactics ....
Now what ? He Zhuojia and Sun Yingsha will not be able to participate ...A word for L.G.L. ......

I believe LJK has a good chance to overtake Patrick Franziska for the WR#15 spot after Portugal. This is important for seeding at Platinum events and also to qualify for the T2 Diamond events.

New woman player from China to watch. (In this Portugal Open.)

Kuai Man:  In U-15 girls, she is ranked world #1.
Let's see how she does in the senior event.

(You can find her best 5 results from above link.  Quite impressive.)

Apparently, the thought process behind sending LSW, CM, and WMY to Portugal is the same as on this thread.  And also Mima Ito's withdrawal:

January 19, 2019

"...there is another suggestion that has been presented by the Chinese media. They suggest that they are sending Liu Shiwen, Chen Meng and Wang Manyu ... in order to study in detail the play of Mima Ito.
...Just one problem; today, Saturday 19th January, Mima Ito withdrew from the tournament!"

CNT should just replace those three with HZJ, SYS, and someone else.  No reason to risk injury or exhaustion before Qatar Open and WTTC for LSW, CM, and WMY.

Oh.. I didn't realize the deadline is past.  I guess CNT does not want to withdraw them; otherwise, it will look like they are chasing Mima Ito.

[QUOTE=pongfugrasshopper]

"They suggest that they are sending Liu Shiwen, Chen Meng and Wang Manyu ... in order to study in detail the play of Mima Ito."
====================
There are so many Mima Ito's match videos out there, they can study them in detail -
play the video in normal speed, or in slow motion.(Stop and replay any stroke.)

Don't see any need for that. (May be they are right, and I am wrong. I don't have much knowledge in table tennis any way.)

To go there to play Mima Ito - that makes sense. Just to study, hell no.
(Now they don't even get to play Ito.)

Ito or no Ito, that will make no différences.

Ito is in danger when she plays other japanese, Korean, Hong Kong, Taiwanese players while China girls are only in danger when they play each other or sometimes against Ito.
Everybody is waiting Ito Vs the Chinese but...Ito could be send home by a "non Chinese" player. This often happens.

The best female players of Taipei, Hong Kong, Korea were not announced for the tournament in Portugal ....
Personally, I was surprised when I saw that Mima Ito is declared ...
Three main Chinese women were additionally announced at the very last moment ...
Given the fact that there are no high-ranking players from Taipei, Hong Kong, Korea, and practically from Japan (with the exception of Ito) ...
Why L.G.L. did it last minute?

I wrote my opinion, not in particular for this Portugal open but in general. There are many players who are able to defeat Ito and first of all the other Japanese ones.

Totally agree with you....Smile

It is interesting to understand the logic of L.G.L. ......Why did he send at the last moment to a tournament in Portugal nr.3.5,6 in the ranking ....Already knowing all the participants ....
What was his purpose?

It will be interesting to see the composition of the women's teams of China and Japan in Qatar Platinium...
Will take part in Qatar Mima Ito?Or will JNT coaches to Liebherr - 2019 restrict Mima Ito participation in tournaments?

Tournament in Portugal - the chances that Liu Shiwen and Hina Hayata will meet are finitely slim ....

I feel that it would be a wise decision from Ito to withdraw from Qatar as well. It would be better for her not to face any CNT players before WTTC.

A few days before the tournament starts ...
Players continue to withdraw applications for participation ....
Will Liu Shiwen and Hayta Hina remain?
It is not clear - in the T-League (Japan) Hina Hayata has not played since the beginning of February ....

Perhaps injury?
