Politically incorrect question. How did Polcanova reach the QF?

Pitchford: I could do better than that.
F. Lebrun: I could do better than that.

The real politically incorrect question is whether WTT is biased against China (looks like they obviously are). 4 upsets against CNT and there are still 4 Chinese in the quarterfinals, while Miwa Harimoto gets overlooked? Between FSQ, QTY, and ZR, CNT should have only been allowed to pick one.
change is not the only constant

I was calling for Miwa to be picked for the wildcard spot as well, but the lowest rated of the 3 Chinese wildcards is QTY at #22, and 2 of 3 made it to the QFs, so they're not terrible picks. As a fan I would've loved to watch Miwa play, but should you really punish highly ranked and accomplished pros for it? Miwa is only 14, in all likelihood she'll earn her spot by the time she's 15 and be a mainstay in tournaments like this. She doesn't need to be awarded a spot because she's a hot name.

Politically incorrect. Age discrimination. The host still had a WTT nomination left unused.

The same argument can be applied to ZR and QTY. CTTA should let them play more internationally and they will earn their spots in due time. By merit, Harimoto2 beat QTY at WTT SCT Goa, just a few days ahead of Singapore Smash.

Handing out wildcards and WTT nomination to the same MA (Member Association) on multiple instances defeats the whole purpose of NER (National Entry Restriction). May as well do away with the NER and just go by WR.

The real problem is the NER (National Entry Restriction).  QTY and the other Chinese absolutely deserve to be here and so does Miwa.  The Smash is advertised as the top 50 players in the world; they get automatic entry.  But then they add this restriction that only top 6 per nation allowed.  This is why you don't see players like Kuai Man or Miwa Harimoto.  They've done everything asked of them.  They played multiple tournaments and played well enough to get a top 50 ranking but are then discriminated against because their countries invested a lot into table tennis.  The same is true for WTT Champions which literally advertises the best 32 players in the world.  I can understand for the Contender and Feeder series using NER as they aren't advertised as best N players in the world, and it gives other nations a chance to advance.

China loses thr top two seeds in thr bottom half of the draw and still gets an all China semifinal.  Is there a better indicator of dominance than that?

Truls is getting stronger and figuring some solutions, FZD never looked too comfortable, he's getting there gradually.

Zhang Rui moves into the top 10 in next week's ranking list.  This makes 9 of top 10 from CNT or JNT with FSQ lurking just outside the top 10.

it is first to 11, a player of Truls calibre should be getting at least two games from Fan, that was a good match, 4-0 is not normal.

They have all 4 semi finalists - I am talking about their losing their two top players in that half of the draw and still getting the desired result in SF.  Maybe given that Joo and Han were once native Chinese, maybe they did get their six through the back door.  But more seriously, I think even if they fall short of their high standards, this is still impressive.

Tell me about it. 8 players (7 in main draw, KM in qualifying) as well last year. They would've dominated the QF if they were all separated.

If Wang Chuqin, a fake Y2K, is barely making a splash in such a weak field of competition, imagine how the next generation will fare.

Yet OTOH, has the rest of the world really improved that much? Not really.

Has been. The general perception on Tieba and Douban is that SYS and WMY are the fig leaves for the CNT. YJN is 37, Samara is 33, Han Ying is 39, so thank you so much to Hirano for being 22 (23 next month).

BTW, was there an empty spot in the women's singles? I wonder where that unused spot go to?

Are there new camera angles for the coming live streams? I saw three live stream videos for the 2:00 section. Player 1 focus, player 2 focus, and back angle. Interesting to see how it works out.
