Suh Hyowon and Cheng-I-Ching join TOP Nagoya.
2 more "big-time" Japanese players in negotiation at the moment.

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2018/08/02/more-sports/new-table-tennis-league-set-begin/#.W2kz9sKx_b0
Quote Each event will have four matches: The first contest will be a three-set doubles and the next three will be five-set singles. If the teams are tied at 2-2, they will play a “victory match,” which is a one-set singles contest, to determine the winner.

Each club is required to have at least one “S” class player, meaning he or she has to be placed within the top 10 in the world rankings or has made a podium finish in a singles competition at either the Olympics or world championships or earned a team gold medal in those in the last four years. The S player must play at least eight matches during the regular season.

There are other player ranks that the teams will have to qualify as well.

...

The teams compete based upon the number of points they score in each game. (If a team wins 4-0, it will get four points. If it is a 3-1 win, the team gets three points. Even if a team loses 2-3 through a victory match, it will still earn one point.)

DHS did made a very specific Olympic version of ball, impossible to distinguish from DHS mass product. Those "olympic balls" are going to come in play few months prior to the Tokyo Olympics.

On a side note: I find it interesting that Under Armour, a USA company, has the clothing contract for the premium Japanese table tennis professional league.  I would anticipate the ball will be Japanese, the table will be Japanese, and the gallery of sponsors will be Japanese.  We will see who has landed the flooring contract.

It is common for Japanese engagements to be very Japanese.

In all honesty, the almost non-existent amount of coverage by the media, terrible promotion by the T League and its teams, and the fact that only 5% of the Japanese population even has heard about this, makes me believe that this will flop.
Table tennis is still such a minor sport in Japan that has only recently been gaining some popularity over the past 2 years since rio.  I don't live in Japan anymore, so I don't know if this still holds, but it was kind of considered an "unathletic" sport at the time (which is totally untrue based on the way you play!).

Rant over and probably will be my last post for a while.  Best updates about the T League can be found by searching the #Tリーグ keyword on twitter.

"ALL TALK AND NO CIDER"

Japan's any efforts are wasted in vain.   China will dominate the sport for ever (seeing the fact that ITTF doesn't care a fige of the "rubber legality" rules).

Hi,

This league is fantastic, such a huge contribution to the sport!  I did not anticipate the inauguration would be of such quality and magnitude.

The leadership of this initiative deserves the highest of praise for their innovation, commitment, and leadership.  To bring such resources together, to construct a world class venue, to secure the participation of so many highly accomplished players, and to effect such an outstanding visual presentation demonstrates a confluence of expertise of the highest rank.

Rare it is to see the beginnings of an initiative so well performed.  Only an optimistic view is warranted here for the league's future, as the start is so strong than only more and higher are in the offing.

We are in exciting times.

Thanks,

Donn

Compare this to European leagues and it's night and day production wise. This is the future of table tennis I think.

This was a launch event - held at a dedicated Sumo stadium, IIRC. Read on another forum that tickets were 40,000 JPY, which is ~355$ and not cheap at all. Good start, but let's see how the rest of matches look like, production-wise.

Fair enough but I expect it to be higher with the effort they have shown so far.

I might go see a match live. There's one later next month in the prefecture next to where I live. Hopefully I can take some nice videos :) Though if their production value is already super high, no real point.
