Interesting that Gauzy went from playing 3rd position to playing 1st position.  Are the 3 players pretty much interchangable based on particular matchups or was there something meaningful about Gauzy moving to 1st position.

I think it's a mix between looking for favorable matchups, rotating players' responsibilities, and taking into account how everyone's feeling on a given day. Whoever plays 1st wouldn't be eligible for the final doubles, if it comes to that. So today Ochsenhausen had again planned with Kubik/Kulczycki for the fifth match, whereas in some matches Gauzy played the doubles.

In any case, Gauzy is definitely #1 and team leader this year, whatever the chosen lineup is.

Even if he is 21yo, he is still a teenager as far as professional table tennis goes and we know those can show ups then downs and back in a moment's notice; Kanak's results may do that too for a while.

Not an official TTBL match, but a nice display of Kanak's skills:

Starting 10 minutes from now. Last season Jha beat Gerassimenko but it went downhill from there. He just beat Falck recently at the Olympics. So both opponents will be looking for revenge.

1-2 Kanak JHA Kirill GERASSIMENKO -:- -:- -:- -:- -:- -:- -:- -
2-1 Maciej KUBIK Mattias FALCK -:- -:- -:- -:- -:- -:- -:- -
3-3 Samuel KULCZYCKI Hunor SZÖCS -:- -:- -:- -:- -:- -:- -:- -
1-1 Kanak JHA Mattias FALCK

Looks like Jha beat Gerassimenko 3-1.  He was up on Falck 2 games to 1 but lost in 5

That loss looks very much like Tsitsipas leading 2 sets to nil in the 2021 RG final and Djoko came back and won. Nothing wrong for an upcoming champ with having trouble to finish off an experienced opponent even if they are well weakened in a corner. If those losses feel worst than any other, they are also better to help them not happen again.

Gerassimenko returns topspin serves poorly.  He will never beat Kanak as Gerassimenko now is.

Falck seems to have peaked as a player.  His standard is the same as two or three years ago.  He was fortunate to win that match.  He is being passed by on the Swedish team.

The early evidence is that Kanak is in the top half of players in the league.  From what we have seen in his opponents' reactions, Kanak's offensive shots are more powerful than ever.  This is very good news.

Thanks.

Kanak beats Alvaro Robles 3-0. Alvaro is ranked #63 in the world, so no slouch.

Kanak is becoming one of the better proponents of using chop blocks. Its use is actually winning him points.

I'm confused - how can the worst (American) player in the Bundesliga, possessing less talent than the ball boys, be 7-2?  And where are the expert commentators who made these pronouncements just a week or two ago to defend their statements?

Kanak's power has gone way up. Plus his BH down the line is lethal.

The match I'd love to see is Kulczycki versus Kanak.  It would be interesting, with the contrast in approaches.  Not sure of the outcome.

Thanks.
