He would need to quit competition to train FH  and that s something you cant do in months I see a lot of europeans junior with better FH than TH

An article by Nikkan-Gendai on Ishikawa's response to the voice of "change of generation." In the article the author quotes Ishikawa's H2H against China from the site Takkyu-Navi(which counts the wins in doubles) and compares them with Ito and Hirano.

https://www.nikkan-gendai.com/articles/view/sports/248688

"I think I can grow only because I have rivals, and I don't think age has anything to do with the outcome when it comes to playing. Table tennis is a sport where tactics will greatly affect the match. (The growth of youngsters) is stimulating. I'm thankful that there is a sense of angst and crisis."
"I want to do my best for the Tokyo Olympics again by resetting my age and past performance."

Here's what the Japanese netizens have to say on Yahoo. The article was picked up by the Chinese media. The responses in China and Taiwan are largely in line with those below.

Given the top 2 players in the WR as of January, 2020 will be automatically selected as the Olympic representative, Ishikawa will be almost certain to be a representative, considering she'll be able to beat anyone other than China.
Though I really want Hirano, Ito and Hayata to represent.
Hayata proves she could compete against China even in singles by beating Liu. I think in terms of doubles with Ito, Hayata will probably be chosen as the 3rd member. And personally, I'd like to bet on Hirano taking into account their growth in the remaining 1.5 years. If the goal is medal in Tokyo, then Ishikawa is a good choice, but if the goal is gold in Tokyo, then I want Hirano.

Quote dse***** | 3/4(月) 15:01

Here are some bits of Ishikawa's matches against China. The 1 win against DN and LSW is in doubles. 0 wins in singles. The 1 win against ZYL is from 5, 6 years ago when she was still a junior. Needless to say, 0 wins against CM and WMY. This is why Ishikawa cannot beat China. Both Ito and Hirano have won in singles.

That is a huge difference.

Ishikawa who demonstrates unmatched strength other than China.
This makes it even more difficult to select from the point of view of gold medals.
In a nutshell, the best team member to win a silver medal.

Even the Olympics trial should be done in a form that looks neat.

I would like for Ishikawa to go on another happy path[.] You've already played enough TT[.] What do you get by beating Ito? Give way to juniors like Ito and just retire! if his forehand will become the best in the world, he has to give it more than due attention and effort and long long hours like the Chinese players and well as typical of the Chinese play get a little decrepit in his backhand

Not a good idea to have Harimoto play all 3 categories. Might affect his performance in the singles which is the most important for him to perform imo. Also, why did they choose Harimoto with Ishikawa for XD? Especially since she and Yoshimura are the defending champions?

Hina Hayata interview after losing Kato ...

(Many thanks Zeio for the translation!)

(For Kato's well-executed attacks,) I contemplated too much, causing the tactics to fail. I have not had a good solution to her countermeasures against me!
...My receive was completely shut by her serve today. I could not find a good solution. In terms of mental toughness, I was more vulnerable than my opponent.
...Not able to participate in the WTTC means I cannot earn more points, the Tokyo Olympics is getting farther and farther away from me. In the future, I can only defeat more Chinese players in the World Tour and earn more points (to improve the world ranking.)

What is the point here? Hayata lost the qualification match to advance. Not everything is about beating CNT. And if she does not grasp the chance to play in WTTC, she does not deserve it.

Yes, for Japan everything is about beating the CNT.  With Hina Hayata beating LSW and winning the Portugal Open, she was really on a roll and brimming with confidence.  If you're Japan, you want that going into the WTTC.  Hitomi Sato should have had to play Japan Top 12 as I don't think she's really done anything to deserve a bye so to speak.  Just my opinion.

Very sorry....Unhappy
Participation in the WTTC Hungarian (WS) would probably help Hayata to get out of the rating pit ....
Otherwise, it will fall to 40-50 places by autumn ...

When selecting for the WTTC -  2017, Hayata also lost to Kato 1: 4 ...
Very pity....Kato is a very good fighter ... But the Chinese are also good fighters ..One will to win at Kato may not be enough against the Chinese ...
I believe that Li Sun and LGL are very pleased with this unexpected gift ....One concern at WTTC less ....
Although Hayata apparently will still play WD .....

Yes, the Japanese fédération took a huge risk, giving their wild card to Sato.
Hayata had to win from dangerous opponents and maybe who play with her for many years.
Maybe Kato is Hayata's pet peeve, I don't know.

What I'm sure is: Kato, Mori, Sato will never be able to defeat a Chinese top player...
