A thread for the the tournament.  Quite a few US brothers in the draw especially the U21.
I like putting heavy topspin on the ball...

Wei Shihao is in this one too.
Can he win this Challenge series also?
That will be back-to-back wins. Hard to do it, but he looks good.

He plays in the qualification.

rooting for Zhang Kai these past couple challenge tournaments but it seems like his international competitions representing U.S. have gone off on a rocky start

didn't make it through the qualification groups in Croatia either unfortunately

oh well, at least we still have Kanak to root for

Hi,

I don't like Kanak's prospects against Cazacu.  That said, it should be a competitive match.

Thanks,
Donn

Normally, a player with WR #40 should be able to beat a WR #370 easily.
But in this case, I agree with you.

Can you give any reason why you don't like Kanak's prospects against this player?

Kanak wins 4-2

I guess we will never know whether Cazacu is a mercurial genius or people still think Kanak is 2500 with an inflated world ranking.

Kanak is in the semis against the European Champion Sgouropoulos in the under 21. Should be a good one.
Unfortunately it is on Table 3.

It's usually helpful to provide at least SOME reasoning for your statements.

Kanak won against Cazacu 4-2.  They changed the U-21 semifinal again Greek guy (European Champ)on table 1 at 17:00 local time or at 11 AM EST. Let's see how Kanak handles him. He always has had trouble againg Hugo. Similar game.

Wei Shihao (winner of the earlier Slovenia Open) keeps on advancing.
He reaches R-16 and the next match he will be facing Chuang Chih-Yuan.

CCY has a ITTF WR of 25.

Kanak won his R32 match vs KHANIN Aliaksandr.  He's played quite a lot...... Hope he has energy for his U21 semifinals.

Wu Yue beats two Japanese players 4-3 to advance to the quarterfinals in WS where she will face another Japanese player that just upset the top seed (also Japanese). If she were to win her next match she could potentially play another Japanese player...

Kanak showing some power.  Still at a power deficit but he is hitting the ball pretty hard.

It's 1-1 against Greek guy. He looked out of it in first game.

2-2 fifth game.  Kanak has been blown away in games he has lost, but only need to win by two points.

Kanak impressive once again. Just when he looks like he has finally played a sloppy match he turns it on.
Down 2-1 7-9 Kanak comes back and is in the final.

Kanak's mental game is his best asset. He rarely seems fazed by anything and his focus is laser like.
Kanak also has a great support system.
Already in his career he has won some mind blowing comebacks. Stuff of champions.

He's probably top 10 for mental toughness. But his lack of top flight power that you mentioned earlier still seems like a problem to me. When Sgouropolous was locked in he was dominating the match for that reason and looked like the much better player.
