I don't understand why betting should be illegal in table tennis ? Why not, not only legalize it (or look the other way like ITTF does about boosting & speed gluing) but also promote it in clubs to attract more players ? Don't mistake me again, I hate Las Vegas & ITS all the stupid types of betting like slot machines (not some games of skill like poker or craps) but betting in TT is a little more educated like say horse racing & should always attract money into table tennis ? I heard that this was very popular in NYC clubs in 30s and 40s and of course this is where we can use Marty Reisman types
In Benny Hull's club in Waltham, MA it was ongoing in late 80s & 90s If USATT insists on running closed & open in LV, why not take bets and make money to use to promote the sport (forget the USOC , you can make lot more) . All new players should have to play for bets (however small) against better players as it used to be ? Of course the better player spots based on handicap charts (or start calling them TT Betting charts ?)

armchair critics prefer to critize with words of (fill in the blank) vs lose money on what they cannot control.

because in us table tennis is not a sport. It's a game for nerds, keyboard warriors, and quirky meek. Sad but truth

While betting may be done in private and whatever, I don't see how it would benefit TT. Not sure how betting really benefits other sports, I guess for horse races it's a big part of it. But for other sports I don't know.
How would it benefit table tennis? FdT

Providing prize funds and some income opportunity for players. The way I see it: betting companies need stuff with uncertain outcomes for bettors to bet on. IIRC, there are quite a few tournaments (not very large and famous ones) in Europe and Russia which seem to be played in some windowless room and whose only purpose is to drive betting.

But it also invites the threat of match fixing. Like it happened with soccer a few years ago. Major scandal.

you can bet in table tennis.
bet365 allows you to bet in most ittf tournaments and also in some less known tournaments like the challenger series. in local club settings it makes no sense because it's all about building the community, making friends, having a good time....

If you desire, you can find an office serving table tennis bets. By the way, I think you're right. If there is a demand, I see no reason to leave it illegal. After all, people are interested in betting, and if they do not have the opportunity, they will still do it only in another place, like fastestwithdrawalcasino.com.
Betting on table tennis for someone who has never encountered the sport will be more difficult than betting on soccer or hockey. But table tennis betting has secrets that will help you make a profit without much sports knowledge. Edited by fereder - 06/21/2022 at 7:16am |
