Starts today.
Published match time is the same as US Eastern.
No player from China, man or woman.

Number of players, men:     60 - 9 = 51
Number of players, women: 33 - 3 = 30

Agree with you.  That's on men's side. Niwa is the top seed.
I am not so sure about the top seed on women's side.

Yeah - the Japanese should eliminate her - Hayata or Hashimoto should take it.

This is a Challenge Plus series, commands 1100 ranking points.
(Better than Challenge series which commands only 850 ranking points.)

They are trying to live stream 2 tables, but unable to get them to work at this moment.
LOL

Zhang Kai vs Alto Gaston.
12:30 PM today.
Table 1.

They both beat the other 2 players with the same match-score:  3-0 and 3-1.
Interesting to see who will win.

Just looked at the Main Draw (men's).

I have no idea what happened:  Zhang Kai lost the match, but ended up in the Main Draw.
His first match in the Main Draw will be against Koki Niwa.

Note: In the Group stage, Zhang Kai lost to Alto Gaston. (Zhang Kai ranked #2 in that group.)
In the Preliminary Round, Zhang Kai lost to Gonzalez Daniel.
They have videos for the above 2 matches.

Btw:  Both Alto Gaston and Gonzalez Daniel are in the Main Draw too.

They may not have enough players for the Main Draw (needs 32 players), thus Zhang Kai got in.

Why he got yellow card? doesn't looks like he did something wrong, just throw racket on table and got yellow card ...

Something is not working right.  I am unable to watch Zhang Kai vs Niwa Koki.
It is supposed to be on Table 2.

Can anyone else watch Table 2 now?  (Starting time:  2 PM, US Eastern)

If JTTA still considers Koki Niwa to play in Tokyo after this performance, Then they have to be pretty stupid.

By ITTF's own rule, Zhang Kai is not even supposed to be in the Main Draw.
Zhang Kai failed to qualify.

Yet he almost took out Koki Niwa 4-0.
Koki lucked out.

Jet lag.

He's a fan of a Japanese idol group, and one member has recently "graduated." That might've something to do with his form.
