I heard about this rec center near Chicago. I called & they said they allow badminton & raquetball but not ping pong for now. What do you think about that ?

To me it seems like they do not want to go thru setting up tables every week. Too lazy ? Confused

I am afraid your theory is correct. Badminton and racketball/squash require almost no sanitizing while a tt table is much more work to disinfect because I imagine no part would be left out. That additional labor must come from somewhere.

You might be right about why they're avoiding ping pong, but not because they have sanitize it more.

The main risk with these indoor sports isn't going to be sanitizing surfaces (and, in fact, sanitizing surfaces was never the top priority for safety with covid-19 in general).  The main risk is the air that you breath.  People are breathing harder and deeper when playing sports, expelling more moisture into the air (droplets).  The most important thing for any sports setting has to be clearing out the air.

In the case of badminton, I'd say it's comparable to table tennis.  However, racquetball is almost certainly more risky because it involves a much smaller, closed space.

Yes, I'd probably feel safest in the biggest room possible.

I was joking at the beginning about scuba diving masks but it appears some people take the idea seriously adding a N95 filter adapter to existing scuba devices:

Racketball?  That is far crazier than TT in the time of Covid-19!

One day I read an amusing thought: human are not for space, it is an illusion to think our future would be  there because our biology is wrong for the harsh environment; the author compared human conquering space to a fish getting out of the water with a water tank to conquer land. It seems like we are evolving that way without ever leaving earth. The design houses will have a blast.
