Adoni Maropis 2103 Last usatt tournament 2017. Plays with hardbat.

Frank Caliendo 1658 Last usatt tournament 2015

Judah Friedlander 1607 Last usatt tournament 2014

Franks level is probably closer to 1800+ the last time we played but that was a while ago.

From the title of this topic I was expecting submissions such as this.

An EJ to a table tennis player is an equipment junkie. An ej to a mathematician is a standard basis vector.

There is a Hollywood movie called "Balls of Fury" from 2007 about a tabletennis pro. Quite funny and the only full movie about tabletennis I know of.

In the 1965 movie, Ship of Fools, there is a scene with Shonie Aki standing in for Mel Ferrer, where he is playing hardbat on deck. Of course, WC Field's famous comedic play in the movie, You Can't Cheat an Honest Man. I have often suspected that Donald Sutherland is a table tennis fan, as there are many hints to that in his movies. I recall one scene where he is in a room, and table tennis is being played on the tv, another movie where there is a poster on a wall that is an advertisement for table tennis in Mandarin. There are other hints in some of his other movies. There is some very amateur playing outdoors by Jack Nicholson in Five Easy Pieces. I used to have a list of movies with table tennis scenes, but lost it.

There's another movie, far better than 'Balls of Fury', called 'Ping Pong', from Japan which came out in the early 2000s. Oh and I see Stillt has just posted a still from it above!
Highly recommended.

Also 'As One' from Korea (a feature film), based on the true events at the 1991 World Championships where North and South Korea played as 'United Korea' and managed to beat the invincible Chinese women in the Corbillon Cup Final. A great film!

And as for scenes - well, how about that scene in 'Forrest Gump'?

..and, my memory is a bit hazy here, but aren't there some TT scenes in that old classic Powell/Pressburger movie 'A Matter of Life and Death'??

I understand that the thread is a bit older, but it's still great to discuss table tennis moments in TV shows and movies, even if the conversation started a couple of years ago.
Looking back, the table tennis scenes in "Friends" and "Forrest Gump" remain timeless and continue to bring joy to viewers, regardless of when the discussion began. Plus, if you're interested in what's currently playing in theaters, this article on what's in theaters now can help you catch up on the latest releases, allowing you to enjoy both classic and contemporary entertainment. Table tennis enthusiasts can always appreciate these memorable moments in the world of pop culture!

I'm not a fan of the office but the accuracy of some of the greatest TT players of the 20th century being mentioned is worthy of posting.

I don't know how many are aware of this short-film documentary that has some unique footage of China's national team (touring Scandinavia), but others also playing in the 1970 Scandinavian Open in Halmstadt.

It's made by well known documentary maker Jørgen Leth. His most famous films are about road-cycling.

Video:

This is the synopsis:

Director: Jørgen Leth
Writer: Jørgen Leth
Stars: Zhou LanSun, Stellan Bengtsson, Li Fu-Jung, Zhuang Zedong, Dragotin Surbek, Antun Stipančić

Film footage in black and white and colour of some of the best table tennis players in the world has been roughly assembled with no apparent attempt to present clear sequences from matches. Instead the film consists of small studies in medium shots of the playing style of various players and of full shots that enable us to enjoy a few artistic duels in full. As the title indicates the focus is on the Chinese players. A matter-of-fact caption relates how they returned to Western tournaments after the Cultural Revolution. In several places their superior skills are accentuated by the use of slow motion, and the subtitle swells to a description of their artistry as "moments in which the score is reduced to an informative frame-work around beauty and imagination." The film turns mute on several occasions, breaking the rhythm created by the sound of table tennis bat, ball and feet, and with director Jørgen Leth's minimalist piano improvisation it lends the film a time-dissolving, dreamlike glow. An experimental attitude to film is clearly revealed when the countdown is suddenly included, and the editing breaks up the already loose sequences still further.
