Propositions to the 2021 ITTF AGM 2020 ITTF AGM - Propositions and Resolutions

 Proposition A-22 (3/4 majority required)

Proposed by the ITTF Member Association of IRI.  (Iran)

To amend 2.6.3 As the ball is falling the server shall strike it so that it touches first his or her court and then touches directly the receiver's court; in doubles, the ball shall touch successively the right half court of server and receiver, or it shall touch successively the left half court of server and receiver.

Rationale:   The extension of the service rule removes the disadvantage for right hand players and allows more flexibility to use their best position when starting a rally.

BTW I am not saying I agree & disagree as I am still undecided (& my opinions do not matter anyway to ITTF). Just thought it was interesting & asking your opinions

Some questions however :-

1. Do all righties will then be required to serve only from left half & all lefties only from right half ?

2. If it is a "NO" to question 1, then does the server has to announce each time as to which half she or he is going serve from ?  If not, the server can stand in the middle and choose which half they will serve from after tossing the ball LOL. I can stand on the right half but serve into left court and heavy-side spin the serve into receiver's left court, which would be legal

3. This is sort of silly > What if I tossed the ball with my right hand & as the ball drops, I switch my racket to my right hand

i imagine 2), and just use a simple hand signal to signify, if the service is going be done at all ambiguously.

If you're standing in the corner no need
