Hirano in 6th place is 15 points behind Kihaara in 5th, and just 5 point  ahead of Honoka in 9th place, That's a tough position to be in.

Miu Hirano was doing fine even with her 0-4 loss to Hayata in the QF.  It's her losses to Hashimoto and Kato afterwards that really hurt her.  She needed to really fight in those matches especially with Kasumi making the Finals.

I was curious how much of an effect the FIXED DRAW had on the outcome of WS. Top 8 seeds only.

4 finals in total so far, but only a maximum of 3 finals is achievable in practice because winner of Lion Cup was exempt from Asian Games 2022 Qualifier.
Hayata: 1st, N/A, 1st(non-fixed), 3rd
Nagasaki: 2nd, w/d, R16(non-fixed), 3rd
Hirano: 8th, 1st(non-fixed), 2nd(non-fixed), 8th
Kihara: 3rd, 2nd(non-fixed), 3rd(non-fixed), R16
Ito: 5th, Grp(non-fixed), QF(non-fixed), 1st
Ishikawa: 6th, Grp(non-fixed), R16(non-fixed), 2nd
Harimoto: R16, N/E, R16(non-fixed), R16

Hi,

I have always had trouble being confident about Kihara.  An excellent player for sure, but she seems the type that can simply be outplayed by strong opponents when they are playing well.  I don't think I've ever seen her play at an outstanding level, as I have with the other top Japanese women.

Thanks.
Tenergy: Two weeks of heaven, followed by three months of excellence, then, a nice rubber.

The problem for Hirano right now is the points for Asian Games 2022, which has been pushed back to 2023, but JTTA has no intention of doubling the points. The rule also stays the same for WTTC 2023, in which the top 5 goes after Paris 2024 Qualifier #3(won't count if WTTC 2023 Asian Qualification tournament takes place before then) and standings of T. League season 2022/2023 before WTTC 2023 Asian Qualification tournament, but we don't know when or if the WTTC 2023 Asian Qualification tournament will be held. In case it won't be held, JTTA will go with ITTF's instructions, and in which case, will they go with WR instead?

Whatever the case, Hirano has essentially performed well in 2 events that weigh less.

Asian Games 2022 80...
WTTC 2023 200...
ATTC 2023 160...

I can only hope this long post would serve to help folks see Hirano in a better light.

Case study again. Team World Cup 2018 and 2019, WTTC 2018 and Tokyo 2020.

Hirano was still mentally broken in 2018 but her stats against non-CNT/-JNT players in 2018 actually compared well to Ito and Ishikawa. Her stats in 2019 were also comparable to Ishikawa.[link 1]

LGL still considered Hirano as the best overall at TWC 2018[link 3] and it could be deduced Baba thought higher of Hirano than Ishikawa from the lineups at WTTC 2018 and TWC 2019[link 5]. Ishikawa didn't even play a singles match in WT after losing to YMY in WS at Tokyo 2020[link 6]. Ito only became the alpha female in the eyes of the CNT after WTTC 2018. Still, Hirano played a crucial role in the SF against South Korea at TWC 2019, beating JJH 3-0 after losing 1-3 in the doubles w/ Ishikawa. Ito had a tough time beating CHJ(3-2) and SYB(3-1), and Ishikawa was already very shaky in the QF match against Romania, barely edging out Dodean 3-2. Hirano even posted on her twitter later stating that was her best match in 2019. She then lost to JJH 3-4 at the T2 Diamond Singapore a few weeks later, but she stepped up when she was needed, which is the most important thing.

As for Hayata, Hirano was benched by Baba at TWC 2018[link 2, 4] and Hayata was fielded and lost to YMY(see below). Hirano also gave up 250 WR pts to give Hayata a chance to play in the group match against Egypt at WTTC 2018, which ultimately cost her the chance to play WS at Tokyo 2020(135 WR pts behind Ishikawa[link 7]). I wonder how many people are aware of that. In a way, Hayata is indebted to Hirano here and she will have to play well at WTTC 2022 for Hirano's sake.

Mima's advantage over the Chinese has been dwindling from as early as 2019 and the gap has only grown larger since. Her insistence on not learning how to loop mid rally will be her downfall.
change is not the only constant

Just a heads up, the 2022-2023 T League Season just got under way with Mima Ito winning her season debut over Miu Hirano in from of a crowd of 2,333 spectators!  This should be an interesting season not only because of the points that count towards the Paris 2024 race, but we should be seeing a number of new faces ( all player photos ) including Hugo Calderano, Shin Yubin, and Nina Mittelham.  This season also introduces a new women's team, Kayuga Kyoto Rise, featuring the youngest pro, 9 year old Misora Matsushima.

Highlights from the season opener:

It can happen playing in a completely new environment.  I really like what Hugo is doing though playing in Europe and now in Japan gaining a ton of international experience. His play in Japan I think will be mutually beneficial.  Japan and Brazil seem to have a good connection so I wonder if we will see Bruna one day in T-League.  It would definitely be good for her.  But I digress.  I would like to see Hugo win a medal in Paris.  He's 26 now and has a ton of talent and passion for the sport.

On the women side, there are 2 huge teams....
a totally unbalanced competition......Even the one who does not know anything about TT will guess that the Ito-Hayata team will win and the Hirano-Ishikawa, Miu team will end second....

I agree that Nissay Red Elf and Abyell are far and away stronger than the rest.  But to be fair regarding who is 1 and 2, it's early in the season and Abyell consists of Hirano/Ishikawa/Kihara/Nagasaki/Harimoto so it's not set in stone that Hayata's team will end up 1st again.

I really hate to post news like this, but I think followers of this thread ought to be informed as it does have implications on the Japan Men's Race to Paris 2024.

Because of several reports on Maharu Yoshimura's alleged affair, he will not be playing T.League games at least for the month of September and of course, will not be able to gain T.League Paris Points both for WTTC 2023 and Paris 2024.

Some reports say M. Yoshimura voluntarily chose not to play the September T.League Games:

Some reports, on the other hand, say T.League suspended M. Yoshimura due to the alleged affair:

Incidents like these can and have already ended some players' careers. Will Yoshimura be allowed to represent Japan? What will happen to his Asian Games Singles spot; will it go to Togami, the 2nd placer in the Asian Games Trials?

Oh how the trajectory of one's career can change in a span of 2 weeks (FROM Singles Finalist and Doubles Champion in WTT Feeder Olomouc + 5th place in Paris Points with a good shot at 2023 WTTC TO being constrained to not play T.League in September where Yokotani and Niwa can potentially overtake M. Yoshimura for a 2023 WTTC spot.)

Before I forget.

Self-proclaimed "TOGAMI Shunsuke, the 1 talent that appears every 100 years."

The No. 1 up-and-coming player recognized by King Mizutani.

Quote Uda is a lefty. They should've gone for Togami. He's right-handed and the only one who took out Mizutani at the ATTC 2021 trial. Uda lost badly to Mizutani and Sora Matsushima in the group.

We should expect a correction from the IOC soon regarding the issue of two highest world rank vs. ability of NOC to select singles entries for Paris 2024:

As a result, the Japan Association sent a letter of inquiry to the ITTF, and received a verbal response that there was no problem with the selection criteria considered by the Japan Association. After that, ITTF's contact person, Managing Director Raul, informed me that he would reply through the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Managing Director Miyazaki contacted the IOC through a person in charge of the JOC (Japanese Olympic Committee), saying, "The IOC and the ITTF spoke on September 12th, and the IOC will soon issue a correction (regarding the qualifying system). received,” he explained. He said he expects to settle in the near future.

Minor changes/additions to the point table on 9/20 and 9/22, specifically the points earned in victory match during regular season and playoff(SF and F) for T.League seasons 2022/2023 and 2023/2024.

Hirano(7th, 15+20+15+1=51) is now behind Shibata(6th, 10+10+30+2=52). Kihara(5th, 40+15+10+4=69) is now 17 pts ahead of Shibata and 18 pts ahead of Hirano. For Shibata or Hirano to make the WTTC 2023, either of them will have to finish 4 places above Kihara, e.g. Shibata/Hirano 1st and Kihara 5th.

Posting this before WTTC 2022. Turns out Ito was suffering(still is?) from a severe PTSD after losing to SYS in singles at Tokyo 2020, had enough with singles and contemplated playing doubles only back at WTTC 2021.

Quote In case I still haven't made myself clear, losing 2-3 to China is not a privilege exclusive to Ito as Hayata and Kihara at WTT CS ESS showed, which is another point I was trying to make, besides Ito's attitude.

Ito must aim higher than that. She's the one who stated "other than winning, everything else is meaningless". Expecting anything less means we are going easy on her. Getting used to the thought of "losing to China is fine" is dangerous. Having another Ishikawa is redundant. See what I mean?
