A Douban user has just noticed Ito and Sato have withdrawn from the Asian Games. According to the date, the roster was silently changed on 6/6 without notice. Nagasaki is now the 4th member.

With the assurance of Hayata in WS, WD and XD, the resurgence of Hirano in WS and WD, the ascendance of Kihara in WS(staring at Ito for stealing her XD partner), even Ito can't deny her outlook for Paris 2024 is getting dire, admitting that "I'd be in a difficult situation if I don't join the T.League" and saying that "the JTTA has yet to clarify"?

Will be interesting how Ishikawa, Hirano, Nagasaki, and Harimoto handle having only 1 week between tournaments considering jet lag. Miu Hirano especially has been playing every tournament. Tournament weariness and jet lag could become a factor.

In the previous round(WTT CT Zagreb and FEE Otocec), Hirano was the biggest winner(280+150=430 WR pts, WR45 to WR17).
In this round(WTT SCT/CS/FEE ESS and CT Tunis), the biggest winner and loser are no doubt Ishikawa(210+90+35+=335+ WR pts w/o running into the CNT until SF, WR11 to WR9) and Hirano(75+ Hirano wasting time with Ishikawa in WD after Tokyo 2020 and WTTC 2021 is beyond words. Another factor to take into consideration in the T.League Individual Tournament is the seeding/draw order, which is based on T.League Wins. Because the Japan Ranking Points a player earns depends on how far he/she makes it in the tournament, a more talented and skilled player who didn't play many T.League matches may have a bad draw and may exit earlier in the tournament than a less talented and skilled player who played many T.League matches and may have gotten a better draw. The guidelines for the seeding/draw order can be found here.
I also translated the seeding/draw order guidelines below: 1. 2022 All Japan Table Tennis Championships (general division) winner Based on my calculations these are the likely seedings: Men's Seedings *Number of wins in the 21-22 T.League Season are in Parenthesis.
Men's Seedings *Number of wins in the 21-22 T.League Season are in Parenthesis. *Notable Omission: Haruna Ojio
Even if the JTTA Selection Criteria is eventually changed to match the current criteria of the IOC/ITTF where the Top 2 players in WR by June 18, 2024 qualify, the draw of this tournament is still important because JTTA has announced that the representatives for the 2023 WTTC in Durban, South Africa will be the Top 5 players in Total Japan Ranking Points. The cutoff is after the "3rd Road to Paris Selection Meeting" held on November 12th and 13th, 2022. Full JTTA selection criteria for the 2023 WTTC can found here. |

It's 5 months late but now is actually a better time to respond after WTT SCT/CS/FEE ESS. It's difficult to say for certain Ito has peaked but it's safe to say Ito has plateaued. It's particularly obvious in WD, where opponents try to break through by gunning for her. It's less obvious in WS because she can hide it with more freedom on placement of serve, but you can see that she has trouble keeping up in longer points. As long as her opponent can get past the first 3 or 5 shots(by spinning up their shots as DHK noted), then Ito's percentage goes down significantly. IIRC, DHK at Austria Open 2018 and CIC at WTGF 2018 were the first besides CNT players to successfully exploit that weakness of her game. Due to her small stature, Ito has thus far failed to come up with effective countermeasures other than all those superfluous serve motions. http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=91735&PID=1128678&title=european-summer-series-2022-7-1122#1128678

Inspired by apacible, I had some fun playing with the draw of T.LEAGUE NOJIMA CUP 2022. Hirano having done the best in the Paris 2024 cycle is also supported by her league results.
The stats on the official site only include the regular season from September to February and do not include the playoff in March. I'm listing it separately in [] after SW below for reference. SW = Singles Win-Loss WP = Winning Percentage VM = Victory Match Win-Loss, included in SW 1 Togami(All-Japan Champ, 7th otherwise, SW 6-2, WP 75, VM 0-0) 1-3 Sone, 2-3 Oikawa 2 Oikawa(19-5[20-5], 79.2[80], 4-0) 3 Sone(11-5[11-6], 68.8[64.7], 3-1) 1-3/2-3 Hao Shuai, 0-1 Miwa's brother, 2-3/0-3 M Yoshimura, 0-3 Miwa's brother in playoff 4 Niwa(11-10[12-10], 52.4[54.5], 0-2) 5 Morizono(10-10, 50, 0-0) 6 M Yoshimura(9-7, 56.2, 0-1) 7 Miwa's brother(8-4[9-4], 66.7[69.2], 2-1) 2-3 Arinobu, 0-3/0-1/2-3 Sone 8 Uda(6-5, 54.5, 0-1) 0-1 Oshima, 0-3 Tanigaki, 2-3 Sone, 0-3 Morizono, 2-3 Miwa's brother 9 Aida(5-5, 50, 0-1) 10 Matsushima(4-4, 50, 0-0) 11 Shinozuka(3-3[3-4], 50[42.9], 0-0) 2-3 Uda, 2-3 Miwa's brother, 1-3 Oikawa, 2-3 Oikawa in playoff 12 Arinobu(3-6, 33, 0-1) 13 Ueda(2-3, 40, 0-1) 14 Yoshiyama(0-2, 0, 0-0) 15/16 Yokotani Matsushita 1 Ito(All-Japan Champ) 2 Kihara(16-8, 66.7, 3-4) 2-3 FTW x2, 0-1 Hayata, 0-1 HY, 2-3 Shibata x2, 0-1 Nagasaki, 0-1 Sato 3 Odo(13-4[14-5], 76.5[73.7], 1-0) 4 Ando(12-6, 66.7, 1-2) 5 Hashimoto(12-7, 63.2, 1-2) 6 Hayata(11-3[12-3], 78.6[80], 3-0) 0-3 Ando, 0-3 Kihara, 1-3 Odo 7 Mori(11-4, 73.3, 2-1) 8 Nagasaki(10-3, 76.9, 1-0) 0-3/2-3 Hashimoto, 1-3 Kihara 9 Shibata(9-5[10-5], 64.3[66.7], 0-1) 10 Harimoto(8-9, 47.1, 0-2) 1-3 Shibata, 0-3 Ando, 2-3 Sugita, 2-3 Idesawa, 1-3 Hashimoto, 2-3 Yokoi x2, 0-1 Sato x2 11 Kato(7-4, 63.6, 2-1) 12 YOKOI Sakura(7-14[7-15], 33.3[31.8], 1-0) 13 Sato(6-2[6-3], 75[66.7], 3-1) 14 Hirano(5-0[6-0], 100[100], 0-0) 15 Ishikawa(4-2, 66.7, 0-0) 1-3 Hashimoto, 2-3 Nagasaki 16 Idesawa(3-10, 23.1, 0-0) 17 ASO Reina(2-0, 100, 0-0) 18 NAMBA Yurika(2-7, 22.2, 0-0) 19/20/21/22/23/24 KIMURA Mitsuho EDAHIRO Ai YUMOTO Fuwa NARUMOTO Ayami MATSUSHIMA Miku NOMURA Moe MS ![]() WS ![]() In English, which looks just like 雞腸. ![]() ![]() In Japanese for comparison, which in this case is 99% Chinese, the most compact language. ![]() ![]()

Regarding the draw, JTTA does it a little differently, 5/6 and 7/8 instead of 5/6/7/8, 9-12 and 13-16 instead of 9-16 and then 17-24. Well, a picture speaks a thousand words.

It's a little strange how they do the T-League ranking. Hirano, who has a 100% win rate at 5-0, is ranked quite a bit lower than Sakura Yokoi, who has a 33.3% win rate at 7-14. She's penalized for not being utilized much by her team (through no fault of her own).

Strange indeed. Encouraging teams to field their best players as much as possible is understandable. And for choosing MVPs, singles wins make sense and that was most often the reasoning for season 2018/19-2020/21. For season 2021/22, they (finally) gave them to those who assisted the team the most.
But for seeding, using singles wins and winning percentage when tied is comical as we've seen. If we go by win-lose difference and singles wins or winning percentage when tied, then the end result is not that much different but avoids the issue of singles wins and winning percentage(Aso also at 100%). 4/5 7 Togami(All-Japan Champ, 7th otherwise, SW 6-2, WP 75, VM 0-0) 1-3 Sone, 2-3 Oikawa 2 2 Oikawa(19-5[20-5], 79.2[80], 4-0) 3 3 Sone(11-5[11-6], 68.8[64.7], 3-1) 1-3/2-3 Hao Shuai, 0-1 Miwa's brother, 2-3/0-3 M Yoshimura, 0-3 Miwa's brother in playoff 4 7 Miwa's brother(8-4[9-4], 66.7[69.2], 2-1) 2-3 Arinobu, 0-3/0-1/2-3 Sone 5 6 M Yoshimura(9-7, 56.2, 0-1) 6 4 Niwa(11-10[12-10], 52.4[54.5], 0-2) 7 8 Uda(6-5, 54.5, 0-1) 0-1 Oshima, 0-3 Tanigaki, 2-3 Sone, 0-3 Morizono, 2-3 Miwa's brother 8 5 Morizono(10-10, 50, 0-0) 9 9 Aida(5-5, 50, 0-1) 10 10 Matsushima(4-4, 50, 0-0) 11 11 Shinozuka(3-3[3-4], 50[42.9], 0-0) 2-3 Uda, 2-3 Miwa's brother, 1-3 Oikawa, 2-3 Oikawa in playoff 12 13 Ueda(2-3, 40, 0-1) 13 14 Yoshiyama(0-2, 0, 0-0) 14 12 Arinobu(3-6, 33, 0-1) 15/16 Yokotani Matsushita 1 1 Ito(All-Japan Champ) 2 3 Odo(13-4[14-5], 76.5[73.7], 1-0) 3 2 Kihara(16-8, 66.7, 3-4) 2-3 FTW x2, 0-1 Hayata, 0-1 HY, 2-3 Shibata x2, 0-1 Nagasaki, 0-1 Sato 4 6 Hayata(11-3[12-3], 78.6[80], 3-0) 0-3 Ando, 0-3 Kihara, 1-3 Odo 5 7 Mori(11-4, 73.3, 2-1) 6 8 Nagasaki(10-3, 76.9, 1-0) 0-3/2-3 Hashimoto, 1-3 Kihara 7 4 Ando(12-6, 66.7, 1-2) 8 5 Hashimoto(12-7, 63.2, 1-2) 9 14 Hirano(5-0[6-0], 100[100], 0-0) 10 9 Shibata(9-5[10-5], 64.3[66.7], 0-1) 11 13 Sato(6-2[6-3], 75[66.7], 3-1) 12 11 Kato(7-4, 63.6, 2-1) 13 15 Ishikawa(4-2, 66.7, 0-0) 1-3 Hashimoto, 2-3 Nagasaki 14 17 ASO Reina(2-0, 100, 0-0) 15 10 Harimoto(8-9, 47.1, 0-2) 1-3 Shibata, 0-3 Ando, 2-3 Sugita, 2-3 Idesawa, 1-3 Hashimoto, 2-3 Yokoi x2, 0-1 Sato x2 16 18 NAMBA Yurika(2-7, 22.2, 0-0) 17 12 YOKOI Sakura(7-14[7-15], 33.3[31.8], 1-0) 18 16 Idesawa(3-10, 23.1, 0-0) 19/20/21/22/23/24 KIMURA Mitsuho EDAHIRO Ai YUMOTO Fuwa NARUMOTO Ayami MATSUSHIMA Miku NOMURA Moe T. I believe it was reported that Hirano purposely greatly reduced her league play to concentrate on transforming her game to one more competitive in this evolving sport. Her improvement via this effort has been outstanding. Thanks.
