Saw this coming.

The next generation is a complete joke. It's not like the past 2 waves of the previous generation were any better. Yan An and Fang Bo (forget Zhou Yu), and then Lin Gaoyuan and Liang Jingkun (forget Zhou Qihao), couldn't even compare with Chen Qi and Hao Shuai, who had to compete with Wang Liqin, Ma Lin, Wang Hao and then Ma Long and Zhang Jike (forget Xu Xin). If Wang Chuqin, a fake Y2K, is barely making a splash in such a weak field of competition, imagine how the next generation will fare.

Yet OTOH, has the rest of the world really improved that much? Not really.

What do you think of these ITTF tourneys that have little or no spectators?
 It's nice to watch but does it do justice to the sport and the players?

Lots of upsets in MS. Kallberg beats Franziska 3-1. Gauzy beats Qiu Dang 3-2. Zhmudenko of Ukraine beats Aruna 3-0 (Wow!).

To me, the real upsets are Zhmudenko's level and some of the Chinese defeats.
Kallberg defeated several times Franziska in the Bundesliga or German cup for instance.
Gauzy played very close matches Vs Dang in the past and is always able to produce some great games.

On the women side, there was a huge upset with Kuai Man's defeat.
