Blame FZD, he had made all the other matches too interesting, it was going to be hard for this one to match the heights of the others.

I agree, the real final is Lim Jonghoon vs Fan Zhendong. I even speculate that Lim would have taken Liang Jingkun down in this form. I really, really wish that someone would upload that match in a good angle. It is probably one of the fiercest matches I've seen in a while.
I think LJK would not have allowed the comeback, FZD play was by his lofty standards shabby after 3-1, LJK played very compact and fierce vs LYJ.

Ma Long and Wang Chuqin have really deadly serve repertoires, but Ma Long notoriously only reserves them for big occasions (WTTC, Olympics). He plays other matches for fun most of the time and just uses his standard FH pendulum serve as if to give others a handicap against him lol...

Wang Chuqin on the other hand gives out everything - but probably because he's not at Ma Long's level yet.

With CXT making a SF here, she jumps to WR#5 followed by #6 QTY and #7 Mima Ito.  Hayata moves up to the #8 spot.

So ok, the others keep on improving but.....Chen Meng has now a BH problem.
She seems to keep her FH grip even on BH and she does not close enough.

I suspect she is doing work to improve her forehand so it is making her backhand suffer.
Has her forehand ever suffered??

I have never felt her forehand technique was really stable, it has always felt very upper body driven.

I never really liked her FH movement, it almost seems like she's pushing the ball forward rather than wrapping around the ball (classical CNT FH technique). Imo Sun Yingsha has a much, much better FH movement.

But TT is not all about stroke beauty, and hence why she's an Olympic gold medalist despite these quirks.
Not going to argue with that at all, moreover, she is physically very strong which lets her get away with stuff, so to speak.  Her backhand has always been extremely strong, her down the line and inside out has always been one of her foundational strengths, so the inconsistencies are interesting.  In fact, one of the reasons I think she struggles against Hayata is that Hayata is a lefty and this reduces the effectiveness of Meng's backhand fade.

Bringing Sun Yingsha into this is a bit unfair technique wise.

THIS, and she's always doing that "jumpscare" face on sitters that she overplayed, like she couldn't read the speed well after the fact, she's not in good form that's for sure, same with wang manyu.
