The final Paris trial is on 11/25-26 which is before the Mixed Team tournament.  I don't believe Mima Ito would drop out of the Paris race.  She's only 24.5 pts behind Hirano.  The Mixed Team is poorly scheduled to end a week before the WTT Finals Women so perhaps that's where her focus is.  I view it as a net positive both the Japanese team and for Mima.  This allows other team members more opportunities, and they are just as capable if not more so than Mima.  It also allows Mima to focus on the WTT Finals so a win-win situation.

Ito has become the limiting factor of the Ito/Hayata pair. There are points in which Ito is clearly not keeping up.

Ito's serve is a double-edge sword. Hayata often misses on the 3rd ball because SYS just redirects Ito's spin back at her. If Ito can't get an advantage early on, then once into the rally, her shot quality tops out sooner than the other 3. At this point, JTTA should break up the pair and raise the ranking of Hayata/Kihara, Hayata/Hirano and Hayata/Harimoto just for a change.

Hayata and now Harimoto are the 2 most valuable JNT players, who can play in WS/WD/XD w/ various partners. Ito's value has greatly diminished in this cycle, and at this point, she is just hoarding up Hayata and Uda. Hayata has won titles w/ Hirano/Miwa's brother/Togami.

Ito's problem doesn't stop with her record against China. She no longer shows that overwhelming advantage over players from other countries like she did in the last Olympic cycle, whether it be WS or XD. I'm not suggesting Ito should not play. I'm responding to your suggestion that Hirano does not deserve to play if she couldn't beat Ishikawa, who keeps getting in the way. At this rate, Ito will be reduced to Ishikawa if she doesn't win. Coming close against a half-crippled opponent doesn't cut it. when multiple teammates show the potential with the same feat, it then comes down to your value, but Ito's value as the go-to player for singles, doubles and mixed doubles is also being chipped away right now. Once again, Ito is already getting in the way of Hayata by dragging her down in doubles. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup Chengdu 2023 Winners to Share 1,000 Ranking Points

Ranking points will be distributed among players based on their team’s final position in the event, played in a round-robin format. The winning team will secure a total of 1,000 World Ranking points, while the second-ranked team will earn 700 points. Teams placing 3rd and 4th will receive 350 points, those ranked 5th to 8th will get 175 points, and teams placed 9th to 18th will be awarded 20 points. These points will then be shared among team members, considering their individual contributions, such as the share of games won in singles and doubles throughout the entire event. For instance, if the winning team accumulates a total of 60 games during the competition and is awarded 1,000 points, a player securing 6 games (10%) during singles matches and 15 games (25%) in mixed doubles matches will earn 100 World Ranking Singles points and 250 World Ranking points for the mixed double pair, respectively. This fair approach ensures that ranking points accurately mirror each player’s performance and contribution to their team’s success in this thrilling tournament. The ITTF World Ranking Working Group has meticulously formulated a point distribution system, with the ITTF Executive Board approving the number of points at stake. The ITTF World Ranking Working Group will closely monitor the impact of this progressive shift and may recommend its extension to all team events, including the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals.

Diaz breaks down the impenetrable Chinese wall.  Hayata will get her chance if Japan does its job.  They should be able to beat Germany regardless of seeding and Korea should as well.

Interesting being able to clearly hear the conversations with the coach and bench in between games and during timeouts, at least during USA vs Japan. Especially for Nandan vs Harimoto - Nandan was obviously overmatched and the USA bench had fun with it. I’m sure he’ll do better the next time they face off.
