very bad planning
I agree.  I don't see why this has to take place *this* December at all right before WTT Womens Finals.  We've got the WTT Mens Finals in early January.  Then, the World Teams Championship in February.  The scheduling of these major tournaments feels so compressed.

And the points for the finals is announced (high of 1500 points), and that is what players are preparing for - for olympic seeding purposes.

So with xt world cup - no player will take it serious if the point awarded is too little too.
mens will have more time to rest, but womens - with 5 day in between and traveling between countries... even with points at XT WC, I doubt it will be of highest quality.
So if half your team is there to just clock in, what will the mens do?

On that subject, if WTTTC doesn't have individual points, many Olympians fighting for seeds will also not take it too serious.

ITTF/WTT has made everything about gaining points, so now, the players are in that zone....its Olympic year, and with points expiry so quickly, there is just no plan b

The final Paris trial is on 11/25-26 which is before the Mixed Team tournament.  I don't believe Mima Ito would drop out of the Paris race.  She's only 24.5 pts behind Hirano.  The Mixed Team is poorly scheduled to end a week before the WTT Finals Women so perhaps that's where her focus is.  I view it as a net positive both the Japanese team and for Mima.  This allows other team members more opportunities, and they are just as capable if not more so than Mima.  It also allows Mima to focus on the WTT Finals so a win-win situation.

It isn't just poorly scheduled, the format and "point" allocation is silly and still unclear.

So, who in JNT will play singles (race to paris world ranking points), and WD (????) and XD (race to paris world ranking points)

I'm assuming, everyone wants to play singles, but only 1 is allowed, and then how many points?
XD does make sense, but what if your 2 singles players is the teams main XD combination for OG?? then this world cup has doubles and mixed doubles as useless for the OG, so what purpose does this kind of format serve?

and then they fly back for a back to back finals - which is good weigh on points there (clear).

so who plays singles? going to fight for it, or rock/papers/scissors?

Possible match-ups:
XD
WS
MS
WD/MD*
MD/WD*
* If required. The order of play for the last 2 matches shall be determined before the match by the team captain of the lower ranked team.
...
Each player is allowed to play in a maximum of 2 individual matches (doubles and singles) per team match.

Put another way, a player can play either:
XD and/or D
or
S and/or D

Without Hayata, Ito doesn't fit in at all:
Harimoto/Hayata, Togami/Harimoto, Harimoto/Harimoto for XD
Kihara/Harimoto, Hirano/Harimoto, Hayata/Hirano for WD
Yoshiyama/Sone?, Harimoto/Togami for MD

Ito's last WD match (w/ Hayata) and XD match (w/ Uda) were back at WTTC 2023 and WTT CT Zagreb 2022. Who would've thought Ito can't play anything other than singles now? 我估伊藤自己都冇諗過有一日會淪落到敢嘅田地。

Quote 01/2022
https://www.nikkansports.com/sports/news/202201270000627.html
Ito: I have graduated from mixed doubles! No Jun, no Mima!! I will focus on defeating China in singles and doubles from now on!!!

http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=91465&PID=1124862&title=wtt-singapore-smash-2022-03-0703-20#1124862
Quote Ito has become the limiting factor of the Ito/Hayata pair. There are points in which Ito is clearly not keeping up.

http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=91735&PID=1128822&title=european-summer-series-2022-7-1122#1128822
Quote Ito's serve is a double-edge sword. Hayata often misses on the 3rd ball because SYS just redirects Ito's spin back at her. If Ito can't get an advantage early on, then once into the rally, her shot quality tops out sooner than the other 3.

At this point, JTTA should break up the pair and raise the ranking of Hayata/Kihara, Hayata/Hirano and Hayata/Harimoto just for a change.

http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=92044&PID=1129907&title=wtt-contender-tunis-2022-8-16#1129907
Quote Hayata and now Harimoto are the 2 most valuable JNT players, who can play in WS/WD/XD w/ various partners. Ito's value has greatly diminished in this cycle, and at this point, she is just hoarding up Hayata and Uda. Hayata has won titles w/ Hirano/Miwa's brother/Togami.

https://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=92274&PID=1134119&title=wtt-cup-finals-xinxiang-2022-10-2730#1134119
Quote Ito's problem doesn't stop with her record against China. She no longer shows that overwhelming advantage over players from other countries like she did in the last Olympic cycle, whether it be WS or XD. WD is the only event she still has a chance, all because of Hayata, which is why she said she didn't want to play singles anymore at WTTC 2021.

http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=92179&PID=1131688&title=wttc-finals-2022-chengdu-9-3010-9#1131688
Quote Before drawing parallels between RSM and Ito, one should note that RSM never lost in straight games between 2003 and 2006. The 4 matches from late-2003 to late-2005 were actually close. Ito had a similar period against WMY between 2017 and 2019, and against SYS between 2018 and 2019. Yes, it ended in 2019.

I'm not suggesting Ito should not play. I'm responding to your suggestion that Hirano does not deserve to play if she couldn't beat Ishikawa, who keeps getting in the way. At this rate, Ito will be reduced to Ishikawa if she doesn't win. Coming close against a half-crippled opponent doesn't cut it. when multiple teammates show the potential with the same feat, it then comes down to your value, but Ito's value as the go-to player for singles, doubles and mixed doubles is also being chipped away right now. Once again, Ito is already getting in the way of Hayata by dragging her down in doubles. That's the dilemma Ito faces.

http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=91479&PID=1132346
Quote Ito: I want to play doubles only.

Ito: No more singles.

Yeah, it's still unknown what the ranking points are going to be, and the tournament is just 3 weeks away.  Just terrible planning by the organizers.

World ranking doesn't affect the points race to Paris for the Japanese.  The only matches that affect the race to Paris is when they play and win any of the top 3 Chinese in singles.  I just want to see Miu Hirano get enough points to make the WTT Finals.  I think Japan should prioritize that for the women.  Miu Hirano was the only non Chinese to take down Sun Yingsha this year so would be a great addition to the WTT Finals.

WTT Finals is more important than this tournament.  More prize money ($12,000 USD minimum for everyone)  and high ranking points.

Baba: I definitely wanted to avoid anything that would put the players at a disadvantage.

日本、卓球混合£体W杯への参加が£式決定 馬場強化本部長「選手の不利益になるようなことは絶対に避けたか£た」
https://hochi.news/articles/20231112-OHT1T51002.html?page=1

ITTF Mixed Team World Cup Chengdu 2023 Winners to Share 1,000 Ranking Points
https://www.ittf.com/2023/11/24/ittf-mixed-team-world-cup-chengdu-2023-winners-to-share-1000-ranking-points/
Quote Ranking points will be distributed among players based on their team’s final position in the event, played in a round-robin format. The winning team will secure a total of 1,000 World Ranking points, while the second-ranked team will earn 700 points. Teams placing 3rd and 4th will receive 350 points, those ranked 5th to 8th will get 175 points, and teams placed 9th to 18th will be awarded 20 points.

These points will then be shared among team members, considering their individual contributions, such as the share of games won in singles and doubles throughout the entire event.

For instance, if the winning team accumulates a total of 60 games during the competition and is awarded 1,000 points, a player securing 6 games (10%) during singles matches and 15 games (25%) in mixed doubles matches will earn 100 World Ranking Singles points and 250 World Ranking points for the mixed double pair, respectively.

This fair approach ensures that ranking points accurately mirror each player’s performance and contribution to their team’s success in this thrilling tournament. The ITTF World Ranking Working Group has meticulously formulated a point distribution system, with the ITTF Executive Board approving the number of points at stake.

The ITTF World Ranking Working Group will closely monitor the impact of this progressive shift and may recommend its extension to all team events, including the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals.

Yet another minor change to the playing system.

For Stage 1, the highest-ranked team will be placed in Group 1, the 2nd highest in

So Taiwan's 4 mens have all withdraw, and replaced with juniors/2nd string

Lin/Chuang double also withdraw

Based on the updated roster, Germany, Taiwan, Portugal, Sweden, India, Australia, Egypt all have players choosing to give this tournament a pass (over one third)

Top teams are easily China, Japan, Korea, France, with maybe HK and Singapore coming in after them.
the rest are just fullers

and i'm amazed how big countries like France and Singapore, can't full the roster. Obviously Germany, Sweden and Portugal aren't interested, so they didn't full the roster.

Tough draw for USA.  Will be good experience for the team to face Japan, France and Romania.

France beats USA 8-5. Format had three doubles matches and only two singles. All matches had three games played out (like MLTT). First team to win eight games. Lily beat her opponent 2-1.

There are no easy draws in this tournament, especially when Jishan is your best men's player.

PR has a woman in the top 15/20 and a guy who has beaten Hugo Calderano on its team.  That said, Doo Hoi Kem has just not looked the same.

Diaz breaks down the impenetrable Chinese wall.  Hayata will get her chance if Japan does its job.  They should be able to beat Germany regardless of seeding and Korea should as well.

It is fun to watch Diaz play for sure.

It seems that she is using a blade with ZJK T5000 handle, but supposedly super Viscaria?

Interesting being able to clearly hear the conversations with the coach and bench in between games and during timeouts, at least during USA vs Japan. Especially for Nandan vs Harimoto - Nandan was obviously overmatched and the USA bench had fun with it. I’m sure he’ll do better the next time they face off.

France started out with a 3-0 lead against Korea after mixed doubles but Korea ended up winning 8-5.
