Thanks for this. I think the submission has to do with testing not so much restriction to previously submitted rackets. As long as Mori submitted the racket for testing after the match, that would work as well.

Just an anecdote I'd like to share when Sakura Mori played Han Ying in a T.League Victory Match (VM) back on January 24, 2020:
Mori mentioned that in her last T.League match vs. Han Ying, she had difficulty with the backhand push. So during this VM, she changed her racket setup from double-inverted to short pips on the BH side just to counter Han Ying for the particular match. See the short pips on the red side of the racket and Han Ying's puzzled expression during the racket check (2:14:47) of the video.
Mori went to win the VM 11-5. TV Tokyo also wrote an article on this incident: https://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/tabletennis/news/2020/07/012616.html
Just something to note-- In this team match, Mori played singles vs Kyoka Idesawa using her standard double inverted set up before changing it a BH short-pips set up for the VM vs Han Ying. In normal ITTF/WTT/Continental International Team Matches, I often observe players submitting their rackets to the umpire/referee in a brown paper envelope after finishing their first match. I think this means that players playing 2 matches in a team match need to use the same racket in both matches. It doesn't seem this rule is enforced in T.League which allowed Mori to use two different racket setups for two different matches. |

Yeah, that win over Han Ying is completely random. Thanks for the details. Makes sense.

Yes, Mori's record against choppers is very puzzling, to say the least. She can't beat her teammates at all, but somehow has managed to beat the most prominent chopper, kind of like Ishikawa.

She played really well. I was impressed with how she problem-solved her way through the pips matches. Does Mori have a chopper problem that makes you think Bergstrom would present a special problem?

In retrospect, Mori had the most difficult draw. I wonder how she would fare against Bergstrom.

Congrats to the winners Sakura Mori (WS) and Truls Moregard (MS). 125 pts brings Mori (WR#68) into the top 50. An unheralded player, but Mori can be dangerous on her best days. You could even argue that her win in one of the domestic trials over Ishikawa led to Ishikawa's retirement because it prevented her from getting into the World Championships.

Looks like the tournament also provided free haircuts - at least for the Swedish players.
And I suppose at a WTT Feeder the food is free for everyone

With only $250 for the winners it could take her a while! Go to Sweden, win doubles tournament, lose money! She can't retire at that rate.

Ni Xia Lian loses her singles semifinal 2-3 to Mori - but takes another WTT title in women's doubles ($250 for the winners). When will she finally have enough?

So much work for only 125pts for the winner.
Moregard barely got past Gionis in R64. Kallberg did what Kallberg does. Grandma Ni survived two 5-gamers in R32 and R16. Mori is still standing. |
