The FAQ, last page says: Are there discounts on other Orlando attractions available? Yes! The Central Florida Sports Commission and USA Table Tennis have secured special discounted pricing to Orlando's internationally known theme parks for all participants of the 2018 U.S. Open Championships. The U.S. Open venues (playing hall, host hotels) are conveniently located just 4 miles from Universal Orlando and less than 7 miles from Walt Disney World. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore all that Orlando has to offer! Visit http://centralfloridasports.org/tabletennis for information and discounted tickets! That link doesn't appear to have anything to do with tickets to theme parks.

My usual doubles partner is 65 but I am 64. Can he play in O65 singles and play O50 and O60 doubles with me or does he have to play in O65 doubles and 060 doubles?

Hope I'm not nitpicking too much on the entry form. I found the following in the fine print of the Seeding section mentioning the use of a recent ratings list. "As a result of later seeding, some players may have higher ratings than shown for the event."
This made sense before with rating cutoff events. Does it make sense now with no events having a rating in its title?

For the online registration I can't get the credit card to work. Bank tells me all is well, but card repeatedly is declined. Very frustrating. Wish there were multiple ways to pay, such as PayPal, etc.

Hi, We are a group of french players and coaches who will be at next US Open in Orlando, One of the kids is a junior who plays well and will compete in the Elite event, We are looking for a double partner for him, boy or girl, Here is a video of him playing (guy in white and blue shirt) : https://youtu.be/P_Irgr1MA10 Maybe somebody could help us to find a player who would like to play doubles with him ? Thanks in advance, Olivier |

I am having the same issue. Transaction declined, pretty much instantly. It seems that it is being rejected even before it could possibly be checked. Tried a couple of different browsers, same results.

The revised prospectus has some contradictions.
Hardbat open is scheduled for 3pm Wednesday, but this text is on the form atleast twice "All players (Elite and Performance Track) may enter in the Hardbat Open Men's and Women's by Thursday at 3pm ..." Tiered Rating Doubles is listed at 3pm on page 3, and at 4:30 pm on the bottom of page 4 in the Small box I notice people trying to sign up for Performance track doubles AND Hardbat doubles (3pm Thursday) which would conflict with event 74 (unless it was moved to 4:30 ??) Can normal Performance track players also play Hardbat Doubles, or only the Hardbat open singles? Edited by ttforlife - 11/09/2018 at 12:04pm |

My understanding is that Performance track players are limited to the Hardbat Open Singles. But I agree, it's confusing.

The website for North America Table Tennis (NATT), which handles registration for the 2018 U.S. Open Table, Tennis is down. I think it was down last night as well.

It's not looking good for the Open. Only 499 players so far. Although there are 67 players from Florida, the other 9 southern states combined are only sending 41 players.

And now it's back down:
Hopefully someone at NATT already knows and is working on it or reads this. We're in the home stretch.

I live in Florida, it’s sad to see only the 67 people signed up, it’s the same people that support all the local tournaments. I think the new format might be the issue.

I'm curious, do you think people don't like the new format, or they don't understand it/are intimidated by it? Admittedly I am new to this sport - but for non elite players this seems like a huge improvement? (and doesn't Florida consist of almost all non-elite players) The number 1 problem for these type events has to be sandbagging (either intentional or not) and the format looks like a brilliant response to underrating (or at least forces you to lose on purpose Monday). Also the 'one event at a time' focus seems like it would be a big improvement. Overall the new format has me more excited than otherwise, not sure why others wouldn't feel the same way.

||||
Sometimes I use big words I don't fully understand to make myself seem more photosynthesis

I agree with everything freakinjitsu said. I think this tournament has had a number of headwinds. I don't remember if/when the U.S. Open has been on the east coast. It's a first for Orlando. The online registration was botched for a month or so back in September, and it now seems to be having issues as well. I also think it's difficult for many to get an entire week off before Christmas at least without far in advanced notice. I know it's not anywhere close to previous years attendance, but given all these factors, five hundred or so isn't completely unexpected and not horrible.

[/QUOTE]The east coast always begs for a National or Open championship to be played in the East. When they are on the east coast attendance is usually 25% less. The last Open (Las Vegas) had 787 players. The state of Georgia is only a few hundred miles from the tournament and only 4 players from Georgia have signed up. The states of Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana are sending 1 player each. The date is always about the same, so not taking time from work is not an excuse. I think not announcing the location and format change much earlier contributed to the problem. I think the new format is good, but players needed time to accept and understand the change. I think the bottom line is that the east coast players have never supported the National or Open tournaments. Maybe an east coaster can tell me why they don't support the tournaments. |
