Here are some recent women vs. men matches of the CNT.
Ma Long vs. Liu Shiwen (https://youtu.be/5vds-psSZdk)
Chen Meng vs. Fan Zhendong (https://youtu.be/nTA5WFjNQtQ)
Sun Yingsha vs. Xu Xin (https://youtu.be/_OgR_PVXlAY)

Here are my questions:
1) Is anybody surprised by the outcome?
2) What is the reason the CNT decided to play and broadcast these matches?
3) Was winning these matches important to the athletes or was this just for fun (even though the entire set up looks very professional, I did see Ma Long smile after his match, indicating a more relaxed nature of this competition)

was surprised when XX lost;
ML is mature thus took it for what it was but LSW was more seriously about losing

every game starts at 8-6 for the lady. That is fair IMO. Starting from 4-0 for instance and I think none of the ladies would have won a match ( probably a game but not a match)

Yeah, but I think what they're trying to do is provide a handicap where the result is heavily in doubt either way, that way it is functional in ensuring both male and female player are constantly under pressure.

Also, games that cut out the early part of the game and just focus at the end are pretty popular / effective at training more efficiently. When I've been very tired and played many matches, sometimes starting the 5th set at 5-all, or simply playing a b03 as the very last match of the day, helps make a fairer match.

Can anyone say what are the rules?
I am being lazy here as I could look at it in detail.
It seems as if,
Men serve first in all games.
Men are handicapped by odd games start 8-6 and even games start at 9-8.

I might try this handicap system between the good and lesser players at my club and see how it goes down. A cash prize should add even more tension, hopefully.

Who serves first is decided by coin flipping.

In the MaLong/LSW match, MML served first in the first 2 games. Was that an error?
As I said, I haven't looked in detail.
