True but WYD also impressed me regarding how she was in bad trouble.
There will be rematches.
In sports history, there have been lots of exemples which have shown that age is not always important when you are super talented.
Both Harimoto, Hirano, Ito Mima...
In Tennis, players like Hingis, graf etc....
In other sports also.
Yes, there will always be young prodigies.  But it's amazing to see how complete a player Miwa is at age 14 as compared to either Ito or Hirano.  I just want to see her to continue to progress like this.  It's great for the sport.

not really following either of them,  from earlier matches today - Surprised Lebrun didn't put up a better fight

CIC has clearly worked on her backhand,  I don't remember it being quite like this.  Her forehand was always preternatural.

I disagree, it has only been a space of maybe 5 months since Lebrun and Lin were battling on equal terms.   Lebrun must really feel bad about this.

Lin is good but Lebrun didn't feel the scoreline should be that bad. it will ne interesting to see how Lebrun responds.

CDS disagrees. Quite a few of those who have made the R16 are keeping something up their sleeves.

Felix is a talented player and still very young.  But LSD just beat Jorgic and destroyed Dima 4-0 at Contender Amman as well as beating a number of his compatriots in recent tournaments.  And he's just beaten LYJ in this tournament 3-1 as well.  So as disappointing as it was for Felix, I don't think he should feel that bad.  LSD has really stepped up his level.

Yes, she is so strong on the backhand and has now beaten both Hirano and Hayata.  I saw this starting back in December when she was ripping through everyone from Hayata to Ito in T-League.

Keeping these for future reference.

Still need more to be convinced here, for a simple reason: poor luck. Will see if Zheng Jiaqi can help with that part.

WTTC 2019 R32 2-4 Kato
WTTC 2017 R64 2-4 Mu Zi

WTTC 2013 R64 1-4 Xian Yi Fang of FRA
WTTC 2011 R64 2-4 Li Jiawei of SGP
WTTC 2009 R128 1-4 Zhang Rui of HKG
WTTC 2007 R128 1-4 Li Qiangbing of AUT, daughter of former(?) CNT coach Li Xiaodong

ATTC 2021 Did not enter
ATTC 2019 R32 2-3 Shin Yubin
ATTC 2017 R16 0-3 Hirano
ATTC 2015 R16 0-4 Mu Zi

Hayata was impressive as well after coming out of her injury in early 2019, then late 2019, then in late 2021 and the majority of 2022 (only to be followed by another injury), but ultimately missed out when it counted the most.

This one was pretty technical and I didn't have time to translate it properly.

Chou Tang-Yu: She didn't grasp the high point [TL's note: top of bounce] to put pressure on the opponent, too much from the bottom up [TL's note: swing], it's a pity

Chou Tang-Yu: Miwa intentionally served more long balls today, forcing Szu-Yu into transitioning [TL's note: playing safe] when receiving and pinned down Szu-Yu’s backhand and occasionally change to the middle or forehand. Szu-Yu’s preparations when receiving were always waiting for short balls, yet was worried about being surprised by long balls and so failed to push short, and on long balls can only transition by playing upwards, which is really a pity

Chou Tang-Yu: From grasping the high point to transitioning, if you have time, you can go back to 10:9 of the last game, there were many cases she did not grasp the high point, allowing Miwa to feel right "at home" in BH exchanges in this match.

You are right on the main point.  I am looking at it primarily as Felix would after beating Truls and and JWJ.  And it is still a different feeling when you beat the guy a few months ago.  Now you are struggling to get points.  The young lack perspective so I hope it makes Felix do the right thing.

LSD did not really play well a couple of months ago. But the LSD in this event can beat anyone in the world. How could he improve that quickly in just a couple of months?

My patience for Fraser Riley was at the limit after watching LSD vs AL match particularly during third set at 2-0, 5-2 score. I knew LSD is in the form of his life but for him to brag about LSD is IMHO disrecpect to past greats of 13 years. What he said exactly?

"no way what is going on I've been watching tablet for 13 years this might be the best performance I've ever seen in terms of shot making on this consistent of basis that doesn't even make sense what I'm saying but never does this"

Where is "The Voice of Table Tennis" Adam Bobrow? If I'm not mistaken he was in US a couple of days ago.

He has always had the unbelievable high quality shots taken early - it's just now that its reliably landing in matches.

LYJ was looking pretty invincible tbh until he met Lin Shidong....

The guy annoys me but he wasn't exaggerating.  He really wasn't exaggerating.  That was a display of power that I can't quite remember someone matching - the closest thing might be Wang Chuqin or Fan Zhendong in some matches, but what made this match worse was how it left Felix looking after every point.

LSD just played out of his mind against Felix, his play made the match look even more lopsided than the score indicated. It was truly an impressive, impressive display. Not sure if he can keep this up though.

When ML was a yungin he played similarly, attacked everything on both wings with ferocity. Only difference is that the played from further back as was the style of the game back then. He eventually realized that it wasn't consistent enough to be relied upon in thr biggest tournaments where he has to consecutively beat many top players trying their very best, and he developed a more well rounded, more consistent game and the rest is history.

Imo the matches against Ovtcharov and Lin Yun Ju were equally devastating. No one has answers to him when he is hitting loops this powerfully and early without much mistakes and placed so well. It was monster like.

I think you're right - it is a question of how long can he maintain this level of performance - eventually most of the hot headed youngsters have to develop a much more well rounded game.

Last 5 sets decided by 2 points, LSD showed his inexperience there unable to close out games against LJK who's a master at closing out games.well played by both guys and congrats to LJK! Much more entertaining than the Women's finals.

wow, how could lsd lose game 4?

He went crazy with the early timing shit, if he played a bit more stably and with more variation he would have won. Shit he led so many games like 10-8 and lost 10-12

Yeah he was too eager to finish the point at the end of each game, he needs to realize that sometimes a change of pace not only keeps him from losing the point but can put a different type of pressure on his opponent as well.

lsd actually played with all variations. LJK just acted more spin  to his shots.

Pretty impressed with lsd’s performance in this tournament.
