WCQ is a very, very good doubles player though, the partnership is pretty much riding on WCQ really.

Yes, it comes down to whether WCQ is online as with the XD, being the lefty player.
Viscaria FL - 91g

MD QF (medal match)
Ovtcharov/Franziska 3-1 Drinkhall/Pitchford

XD SF
LSD/KM 1-3 Harimoto/Hayata
47, 117. 7 in a row.
12, 22, 26, 46, 49, 69, 611
04, 14, 15, 25, 26, 36, 37, 57, 58, 78 TO for Harimoto/Hayata, 79, 711
The point after 5:8 of G3 highlights the issue with Hayata always wanting to power through the shot (that she finally realized after Tokyo 2020).
02, 14 TO for LSD/KM, 24, 27, 37, 38, 68, 611

WS R16
CXT 1-3 -> 4-3 CIC
G4 710, 910 TO for CIC, 911 CXT mishit that pop-up.
G5 01, 31, 34 TO for CXT, 35, 46, 56, 76, 77, 87, 88, 98, 910, 1210
G6 04, 24, 27, 77, 78, 88, 89 confusion over CIC's serve, 810, 1210
G7 10, 11, 21, 23, 33, 34, 64, 67, 117
CIC failed to convert all 3 match points.

The Chinese pair pretty much gave the Japanese pair free reign to attack, That Ding Ning stability really shining through from Kuai; barely initiated any attacks at all, and always passive and defensive.
Shindong was decent but prone to overcompensate and overhit
Domination from the Japanese, the final against Wang/Sun (most likely) will be epic.

No way to beat cxt with weak long rallies. CXT is the queen for it.

CIC looked so nervous for the last three games. CXT had much higher pressure than her, but CXT was pretty calm the whole match.

Miyazaki and Baba on behalf of JTTA: Blame WTT. Since their event structure and thus the world ranking are unfair, we had no choice but to do it our way, fair and square, except we awarded the highest points for the WTTC that is, unfortunately not within our power, tied to the unfair world ranking. It's the player's job to decide what tournaments couldn't be skipped.

For big events like Olympics and WTTC, no other country has the same amount of resources and financial support for athletes to practice like China.

Eh, are China still throwing money at table tennis?? I doubt that, there's been intense focus and heavy spending on winter sports, Football, Volleyball and the likes in the past 10 years. I think Japan are putting more money into their system right now with their bright results and litters of hopes they train and sponsor in age-group tournaments. Even Korean kids are popping up in the youth contenders, You rarely see Chinese players in these tourneys; which is why some of the promising ones quickly end up becoming practice partners because there's no unconditional support and resources for them to grow, gain experience and playing time, and find their feet. China is still depending on their rigid age-long system; maybe only the top 4 get sufficient resources. If rumors are true that most Chinese people are not enthused about watching table tennis and prefer football or basketball, then naturally government support for table tennis craters.

Yeah, 5 will have to do.  But the glory days of ALL China semis, prevented by the draws of the last 2 wttcs and the poor form of ZJK in 2017, will likely see a reprisal.  So you may still get your nirvana after all!

The level of dominance has been clinically depressing as much as it has been impressive. Hopefully there will be some good matches even between the Chinese when they start looking out for self primarily.

It's a shame she didn't pull it off.  But, then again, how many people thought she'd get to 7 games against a CNT member?
