I just started a ping pong club at my High School, but I'm finding a little lack of interest. A lot of the basement players who came are dissapointed that they can't even get the ball onto the table when we do forhand forhand counters. Any advice on how to teach them quickly or keep them interested?

Hi Anime,
I have a league at a grade school. The way I got the interest up was to get another good player and put on a demo at an assembly.  25,  4th, 5th and 6th graders are in the program. I have only two tables so I let one group play each other on one table while I teach on the other. We switch people every two minutes. Once a few of them started to figure out the basic strokes and the fact that the strokes worked, they started to peak the interest of the other players.
I still get my buddy to put on demos as often as we can. For them to learn and get anywhere, they must have a decent bat. You wont get anywhere if they are trying to use hardbats or sponge bats that cant make spin. I bought some spinny premades that are real slow out of my own pocket. The school matched what I put in.
I also coach at a colledge. Many newbys but enough good players that they can see what they have to learn.
Suggest you get some GOOD players to put on a demo so they can see what table tennis can be. Demo players will work togather of coarse to make it as wild as possible.
     Good luck

A demo sounds like a good idea. Now I wonder where I can find good players. My friends are only like 1400-1500. Thanks for the idea.

Yeah, people are always impressed by looping far from the table. Maybe smash/lobbing too. Doing funky spins might entertain too, like making it spin back onto your own side of the table, and such.
