Hi all,
I've got a theory about grip - it seems a bit mavericky as I haven't found any backing online, but hear me out. I've noticed that when I use a tacky/sticky rubber on BH, my whole shakehand grip feels more stable, especially for FH. When I play forhand with such a rubber on BH, my index finger is somewhat firmly stuck against the BH rubber and that gives me much more stability and control of angles in my shots. Conversely, when I use a completely non-tacky rubber on BH like Tenergy 05, my index finger keeps slipping - resulting in me pinching my bat betweern my thumb and my middle finger, with the index finger being quite wobbly. This effect is magnified when I use something like non-spinny short pimples on BH. Have you noticed this?

Yes I have. If you want to try something that is mind blowing, put long pips on your backhand and serve. You can really dig your index finger into the racket and generate a lot more spin when serving. It is just something to try while serving that illustrates the point you are making.

my guess is with the tacky rubber you feel more comfortable brushing the ball but when you're using something slick you feel like you need to use your finger to punch into the ball a little to get it to sink

The advanced grip to effect your playing potency to the full. The improved finger placement is to give you more relaxed wrist and speed a lot. Be happy |
