I have a pair of nike indoor soccer shoes, they work great.
They maybe a little cheaper than tt shoes and a lot easier to find.
Real leather soccer shoes, although more $$$$. will conform to the shape of your feet and are real comfortable.  Most soccer shoes do not grip the floor as well as other court shoes, but it works for me, since I play with my feet spread far apart and hop around.
If you want more traction, look at badminton shoes.

Why is it going to be a hassle to get TT shoes?

Acis Copero S

Light, high gum sole grip, low to the ground, very good ankle support. This will sh*t on 99% of TT or badminton shoes, I say this because I have tried alot of shoes.

synthetic leather does not stretch.  Real leather will stretch out and conform to your feet.

To the op I say yes, yes & yes.
I've used two pair of Adidas Indoor soccer shoes. Just slightly narrow for me; otherwise, very solid.

These Diadora's should be on my doorstep shortly.

I have been using Adidas indoor soccer shoes for more than 10 years.  I also played soccer.  In fact, I played soccer a lot better than I play table tennis.  So, I know how these shoes works.  I like them a lot.

I have one minor issue with Adidas indoor soccer shoes.  They tends to be longer than other shoes like Nike or Diadora.  But again, it's minor issue.  I would recommend you all try it.  I bought all my cleats and all my indoor soccer shoes at www.soccer.com.

+1 Yes, I've noticed this too.

also, some indoor soccer shoes can run somewhat narrow
~if~ you can manage; then 1/2 size larger may accommodate you depending on:
a. ones personal taste regarding fit
b. the width of your flippers LOL Wink

Table Tennis shoes for soccer?  NO WAY that will work.  Just like you mentioned, the materials are not made for soccer.  They are NOT strong enough for soccer.

I usually wait until Christmas Sale.  They will have cheap, but GREAT, shoes for sale.  I bought my shoes between $20 to $30, and normally these shoes run between $50 to $100.  I use one pair per year, so it's perfect to get a new pair around Christmas Sale at www.soccer.com  or soccerpro.com

i bought a pair of indoor soccer shoes out of impulse so i did not stink up my asics running shoes so badly, and they were on sale for $14 lol. they look very similar to tt shoes lol, but with worse support and breathability. i want some nice mizuno's or something pretty badly, but i am too cheap to fork out for them just yet.

Absolutely you can use indoor soccer shoes for TT. It's cheaper and you can find great quality shoes. Just make sure they don't have the flat soles (like running shoes), but a nice rounded gum so you don't roll your ankles when moving side-to-side. I use a pair of Adidas NOVA and they are perfect. It's also a must if you are big-footed like me and need something over a size 12.

By the way, if you want the old school look, then check out the Adidas Net 80 shoes. They are so sweet looking, but they'll set you back $50-$60.

Oh yeah!

These are the ones I'm looking to get next time I need some TT shoes. I chose the colors cuz those are the colors of my school (even though I'm too busy to play on the team this year):

If you are looking for high end shoes, you all should get Diadora.  It is considered better shoes than Adidas or Nike.  On another note, do you really know where the best sport shoes were made?  The answer is Korea.  Nike and Adidas quality were GREAT because they contracted to Korea.  Now, it goes to other countries, and they are not so good anymore.  Trust me, I have been using their shoes for more than 20 years on and off.
