I found the previous similar answer by jpenmaster through the Forum Searching. And I tend to agree with you and jpenmaster.

Somehow my friend who sanded the back of the blue KTS blade claimed that the sheet not only showed up below the cork layer but also from the rest of the blade beyond the cork area. I speculate that it could be the double sided plastic glue sheet that Butterfly has used for attaching the cork layer to the back of the blade and then Butterfly simply dark paints the rest of the glue sheet beyond the area of cork.

I have one red KTS, four blue KTSs, two Cypress Max, two platinum RSMs. After examining the back of these blades under the sun, I have noticed the grain pattern through the dark paint from all blades except the RSMs where the dark paint finish is extremely smooth showing no grain pattern. It is possible the dark paint of the RSMs and the newer KTS is thicker misleading my friend to believe there is a thin layer of plastic film attached to the back of the blade. These irregularities confuse me more. I have to talk to my friend again.

At the end of the day I still think your opinion and jpenmaster's comments are more accurate. Thanks.

What is actually the black vertical stripe on the right hand side ? I have seen such black vertical stripes on some Xiom blades before.

Certainly I did ask them, and iruiru in turn asked Darker, who confirms that it has nothing to do with the quality of wood and that it is natural. This is actually my first two-colour blade.

I don't know about that, iruiru did not say anything about the hinoki grade.  Can you give me the list of grades for the hinoki wood being used for blades ?

Most of the wood for blades is grade A,B and  S.  Grade S being the best then A and B being last.  It is sorted by hand and peoples opinions vary on what grade a piece should be.  One mans grade S may be another mans A.  It is all just for appearance.  Most all high end jpens are grade A or S  KTS,Cypress Max, Cypress S,CPL,RSM,Dynam,KKT,Darker 70/90,Xiom RSM gold/plat,Rorin,Excellent A/P, Joola Genesis,Temujin,Iruiru TSP and custom mades all fit in A or S. For me it is more important if the blade is hard  or soft and what the blade weighs not what color or how perfect the grains are .

For me i like it when the Hinoki has a rose coloring to it.  So much nicer than plain cream.  I do some wood working and in that field when a piece has something unique about it , it is considered rare, special and more valuable as no two will be the same. Here in the TT world we want a lifeless and  mechanical look to our wood ,very strange.  I think a lot of collectors would like their Hinoki grown in a lab under perfect conditions to get perfect color and grain and that is a little sad.

that's why your last KKT Super Cho Bishu Tokusen 1D100 9.3mm (my present) is a keeper. I've seen so many Jpens here, some of those are crazily expensive but still that particular 1 is not just an eye candy, it's a joy to behold & play with. It may be a bit light (84g?) for some but for me it's good enough for my purpose.

Speedstick, I believe heavier blade will be more powerful.
Jpenmaster, actually I agree with you, and I don't expect a plain colour. However this one does not look natural, there is a straight line separating two colours. If the colour changes gradually, then it should be nice. Cry
Tiehwen, I don't recall your KKT. Do you still have the link so I can see it ? Perhaps yours is the lightest so far Thumbs Up

its natural aeoliah, no worries. its just the younger part of the tree (closer to the outer edge) and it does not affect play.
