Lee Sangsu turns Ma Long into a Chinese Dimitri Ovtcharov 2.0.  I do wonder what about the backhand serve transformed the game and whether it was more about Ma Long being out of place after the serve or Lee Sang Su having trouble with the spin.

If I'm not mistaken the Asian Champion from this event will have a spot in this year's world cup. ZJK has a spot already as the reigning WTTC champ. I bet LGL want Ma, Xu or Yan to get the other spot for China.

Nope. They have just changed the rules for World Cup.

Why?

It varies - from exposing new talent to top level competition (Yan An, Fan Zhendong) to whom they want to qualify for another event or even whom they want to get a certain title on their resume.  They didn't have to send Ma Long to the last World Cup but they did.  My main point was that the fact that ZJK is or is not on the team doesn't mean much without knowing something about why that we don't know.

Game 5 between Fan and Kishikawa is hell of a game. Very impressive dominance by the young player against a very established one.

The way ZJK is playing now, im pretty sure leaving him out is good for everybody. He would have probably dropped his match anyway. You can't make him put effort in such events.

I am pretty sure I disagree. FZD did not dominate anything. I really dont understand why FZD gets all the chances. He gets pushed forward hard at the expense of Zhou Yu, Fang Bo, and even Yan An. He has nothing in his game to capture your attention. Worse, with all that build, he still lack power, due to his super short BH swing (or should I call it a twitch) and FH that is too close to the body. The thing is, Yan An has less muscle and even shorter strokes, but puts on quite a smack on the ball.

I am sure LGL has his reasons (please spare me the who-are-you-to-question-LGL replies), but he is sacrificing better players meanwhile. The only Ace that FZD has at all, is his age. That is if you believe the official age. He will end up like Chen Qi, solid player who never achieved nothing.

Make sure you guys understand I am talking about game 5 between the two, not the whole match......
Fan is a coach favorite for good reasons, watch the match between him and Lin Guaoyuan, junior final...in today's game you need power to go with technical game, Lin is technically perfect but no power......Fan is like the Lebron James of table tennis..

i disagree with this. wrong comparison in my opinion. the lebron james of table tennis is MA LONG (few years ago lebron was clearly the best player in NBA, he just didnt have a championship then, same situation now with ma long, many think he is the best tt player, he just doesnt have the championship....yet). i think you should compare Fan to another basketball player

Lebron James was very physically strong and matured at a very young age with good skills, Ma Long is not comparable in that regard. Fan is a far better match.

Other than winning the Junior title, Fan's most important breakthrough was CNT internal qualifiers for WTTC 2013, where he beat out Fang and Zhou even though he didn't win a direct ticket. The coaches still picked him for singles in the end because they see more potential in him than Fang and Zhou.

Yan is another story. He's got more chances at the international stage than any other youngsters, for sure.

Lebron James was with a terrible Cavaliers team for so many years, and tried to put the team on his back for so long yet fell just short often. When he finally went to the Heat (synonymous with Ma Long getting chances on the biggest stage) he choked once then won twice. Ma Long has choked more than once, and won...0 times.

The Lebron comparison was about the precocious physical development of both players. People are being parochial in trying to make it fit in every single way.
