Great TT. Thanks again for posting.
Why are the people/spectators so few, and behind strange blew barriers?

Yea, I thought the same thing, but he is a pro who has been playing for a long time and he is very smart. Yan An should have won but this just shows how experience over comes the better player.

Janus, awesome to see this videos!! thanks again for the hard work!
P.S> is it me or is FZD already in the discussion for best ever? To me he will surpass ML and even my boy ZJK at the next worlds. I'm just seeing a perfect game, both wings with lots of creative shot-making. Waldner was the last one who had that. |

I think his technique surpasses that of ZJK and Ma Long. However, it is not so easy to unseat Ma Long/ZJK as both of them are experienced and are arguably still at the top of their game. To date, I don't recall FZD ever winning against Ma Long, despite being close a few times. He still lost 4:0 to ZJK this year in the worlds. So it really remains to be seen whether he can successfully step over ZJK or Ma Long to get a spot in the Rio Singles.

I think Ma Long's ship has sailed unfortunately... ZJK will go with almost 100% certainty, and FZD, Yan An, or Zhou Yu will go. The game has evolved too far on the BH side in past 2-years and ML cannot produce that technique. They'll merely pin him on BH and force errors. These new generation players are simply quite amazing, and not yet even mature. Also, don't forget the Japanese players are emerging as a force, and I think LGL won't allow Ma Long to play for risk that he gets beaten by one of them. The Japanese players are all powerful on BH and will always have their chances against Ma Long due to his weakness there. (I'm not going to even get into the discussion of his mental lapses.) FZD's back hand is amazing,he controls the game with placement and his banana flick is the best I have seen. It appears to me he stays at the table and uses his back hand and when he does move away from the table it is generally on the for hand side. I think as he matures he is going to just get better.

FZD has way more balance between his FH and BH than ML or ZJk. As NextLevel said in another post he plays allot more like WH. Stays close to the table and controls the point, especially with regard to initiating attacks with his BH. His mental disposition seems to be in the sweet spot to but we will have to see as he matures. Technique wise it seems that a more heavily biased BH grip and neutral grip on the FH is the way forward for their SH players. The most evolved shot to me seems to be the punch block down the line from an incoming cross court FH. He is devastating with that shot and their is no hope of getting too it. Just too fast.

I doubt LGL would field any of the youngsters if they don't have any major wins before Rio, regardless of how advanced their technique is, because they are still unproven... |

The rankings determine who get selected in the first place. Wang Hao and ZJK were the top 2 Chinese on the ITTF rankings at the selection period for the 2012 London Games. It has nothing to do with whether they are unproven or not.

From Jan to Aug 2012 Wang Hao was never in the top 2 in the ittf rankings. So the selection period must have been earlier which is unlikely.
