Controllable yes, but I don't think it's the right blade for players still developing their strokes.
Althought it has control, this blade is not slow. It has decent speed for sure. A slightly slower blade should be more adequate. By the way, the looks of a blade should not be your mean reason to buy a blade. It's a nice to have, but playing chararistics are way more important.

Agree. You could put that rubber even on an OFF+ blade and just about anyone could still play with it. Sriver EL 1.9 is excellent for developing players. |

1 (FH) side & the tip of handle look nice but the BH/other side is BORING...
For a blade w/this price, Stiga should at least make the other side or the whole package more presentable, at least for me, if you compare it with any of Butterfly's ALC blades, e.g. Viscaria comes to mind first. This Emerald VPS V is surprisingly so much more expensive than any of my new Btfly's ALCs (not too many in fact.). |

The original diamond touch coating of my Emerald blade disappeared after a few times of rubber change.
Any one please share the experience how to take care of this coating and its veneers. Should I seal it? Does WBG or voc-glue damage it? Thank you. |

Maybe I did something wrong with my blade. The original coatings disappeared and the outer veneers started to splint. (I have quite a lot of experience in rubber re-glueing.) Now I have bought a new one.
But I'm not sure about voc-base or voc-free sealer, which one will work better? This time I will try to seal it with Revoltion no.3 blade lacquer. Hope it works. |

I have also changed the rubbers a couple of times, no problems. What glue do you use?

At that time, I used Andro turbofix, Gewo Cleanstick and Haifu Speed Glue. I can't remember exactly. |

I saw one Emerald with the top ply partially come off on the rubber change. It happened on my Infinity, so I am a bit concern too. I am still waiting for my Emerald in the mail, when I get it, I may consider sealing it just to be safe.
Update: Just got my Emerald. Couldn't see or feel any coating on it at all. I will definitely seal it, and I think TZ would agree . Edited by mhnh007 - 11/13/2014 at 10:26am |

RC is not strong, and doesn't damage wood like water based glue. I haven't had a chance to use mine yet, but when I do, I think I will seal it to be sure. The Intensity coating is good. I didn't need any sealing.

Very nice review Yogi. Can you compare the Emerald with TB ALC/Viscaria, Jun Mizutani Super ZLC, MJ ZLC, and Timo Boll T5000. Do you know if the Emerald is as fast and soft as the MJ SZLC? I am currently using the MJ SZLC, while I love the blade, I still want to have a Stiga blade in my collection.
If the Emerald VPS turns out alright, I'll get myself a penhold version for sure, thanks! |

Never tried it with Tenergy 05. Can't afford those expensive rubbers. But a guy in my club have a tenergy 05 which he will give to soon. He didn't enjoy the rubber so I will get it.

Apologies for the grave dig, just used T05 both sides on the Emerald, and the whole setup feels really solid, much better for me than T05 with Primorac (way too slow for my liking with the plastic ball). The emerald has as a nice woody feel and feels crisp on loops. Although it is a few notches slower than Viscaria, it is a relatively stiff blade, and I think this is one small weakness of the Emerald. Overall, I will be using this for many more training sessions to come. |

I have the possibility to pick up an emerald vps blade at 50% discount, however it is 94gram. Is this too heavy for amateur player? I'm using tensor rubbers and am afraid of too heavy blade.
Alternatively I could pick up a rosewood nct VII at 88 gram, perhaps this is slower and easier to play with? |
