I've just received some sheet of Globe 889 and 889-2 (both on 1.8mm 38deg sponge). The pimples on the 889-2 are similar height, but wider and have a conical shape instead of the cylindrical shape of the 889. The pimples seem a little high for a short pimpled rubber (compared to say the 802). Now I'm no expert on short pimpled rubbers, if I compare these to the 802 and 802-40, I would expect the 889-2 to be faster and spinnier than the 889. Can anyone confirm this, or has anyone tried either one of these? Cheers! |

Why would a pip be both faster and spinnier, other than due to sponge? I can tell you 889 is a very NOT spinny but fast pip.

Cheers Cole! Well I'm trying to figure out what effect the pip shape and spacing has on speed and spin. Since the 889-2 has wider and conical shaped pips, I would assume it certainly will be spinnier. I don't know if this affect the speed. Are you saying pip shape and spacing does not affect the speed, but the speed is mainly determined by the sponge? It appears that both use the same sponge & hardness (looks and feel the same). Cheers! |

I have used 889 Juic soft type 2.5mm
I found it pretty fast and good spin for a pip. |

Probably not legal. the restrictions on LP shape are pretty tight!
