Hi, my fellow t/t enthusiasts...
I saw one Brand New Nittaku Rorin Jpen, still in original box, offered by an acquaintance who operates a sport shop, for well under 80.00 USD. Is it considered "Cheap?" I'm not a Jpen holder..Can't tell the diff. between Bty, Nittaku or Darker Jpens n their "preciousness".But it was very beautiful to look @ n hold..I learnt that it's not as good or expensive as Bty High end Jpens..Is it worth collecting?
This is the NITTAKU RORIN I've been talking about:

I own a Rorin and thats a great deal. Currently the cheapest place that I know sells it for about 114CAD. Which version is it- 9.0, 10.0 10.5mm? If the grains tight and lightweight thats even better.

well my version is the 9.0mm version which i got way back. I dont think they even make that anymore since I cant find it anywhere even iruiru doesnt have it. As far as I know, the 10.0 and 10.5mm are priced the same.

wow didnt really know that rorin has 3 version of thickness...i thought all along there was only the 9mm ...if the 9mm is already good enough then i guess the thicker version is even better... |

I have Cypress-R and Darker Speed 90 R, both 9 mm, but after using my thin Violin, I find that 9 mm is bulky, and I feel that I can move more swiftly with thin blade.

out of curiousity, after going through speedpong.net... same thickness, same material, more or less same weight, speed on both rated the same, why is AA much more expensive than rorin...?

its probably a better cut...my rorin (the original 9.0mm) has a much tighter grain pattern than the one pictured above.

Actually, Rorin came from only slightly better cut of Hinoki. It's more expensive than AA because with it Yoo Nam Kyu won Olympic gold medal in 1988 in Men's singles and also won the men's doubles semifinal (w/ Kim Taek Soo) in 1993 World Championship in Sweeden. I don't why they mention Barcelona. It was in Seoul, Korea.
I guess Speedpong prices it higher because you probably can't find other retailers in US that sell Nittaku AA. Or they might just got them higher from their supplier. |

One more note on this: I was told that in terms of the cut of the wood going from the center ring and outward is Excellent A, Rorin, AAA, and then AA.

Interesting. Would you be using your AAA or Primorac?
Good luck Adib! Have a lot of fun with your Rorin. If your Rorin is the old fashion 9mm, then you should find it more controllable than your Yamato-K. |
