Hey guys
I'm currently trying to switch from shakehand to penhold and I would like to hear your thoughts and tips about my pH forehand stroke since I think that it needs a lot of work, especially in the consistency area.

Honestly it's already very good! The only thing I would nitpick is the footwork, you seem to be moving sometimes to suboptimal positions for hitting, but this should improve as you train more. With penhold I feel like most of them have really good FHs, how to deal with the penhold BH weakness is the harder topic. Some go for aggressive steparounds, some go for RPB (inverted, pimples), others TPB, and yet others a mixture.

It is very good for first timer already Wink
Just the elbow is too high (for close table stroke), so try to rotate the body a little more which will bring your forearm forward a little.

Yes about the elbow too high comment, also I would try to swing more forward instead of upwards.

I think it is the same as the shakehand grip not to  move the elbow (or  upper arm) before contact.

I would hold my elbow (upper) basically stable before hitting the ball and then use the upper arm to create more power.

That is just some innocent Freudian slip or some clever wordplay ( to indicate that you are speed-gluing and or boosting like mad )

Compared to what ? Your own shakehand FH or compared to Xu Xin & Ma Lin's forehand ( Or to be politically correct, (you being a Caucasian and all) like Zoran Kalinic or lVlilivoy Karakasavic )  ?

And by how much ?   If your shakehand is far more consistent than your penhold, then you are probably living in a fantasyland .  However if I loop as good as you with my penhold forehand, I would mix & match & practice both, because the penhold forehand in general is (or can be if you get better)  far more devastating & deceptive  than a shakehand forehand at any given level.

But the real question is, do you then use regular traditional penhold backhand or reverse penhold ?  How well it can coexist with your penhold forehand compared to shakehand FH with your shakehand BH.

ya, swing more forward instead of upwards only. HOwever, need to remember not to straight your arm. In the end, the end form should be like you give a salute
