----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was only able to make the 2nd day of this two day clinic. From what I was told it was the better of the two days.

I enjoyed it a good deal.  After some semi-comical warm up stretching and bending Ms. Huijing Wang demonstrated all the basic strokes with correct technique and also demonstrated the way us mortals were doing them. Being mortal sucks!Cry
I should also add footwork, service and receiving were touched on.

I did have some individual time with her and while she was able to instruct some, corrections seemed more troublesome. Most of what was imparted to me (of my shortcomings) I already new. What I need/ed was how to fix from where I am at now, as I'm not inclined, nor think able , to start from the ground up!

All told, seeing a player like that in person is really impressive! Her strokes/technique, to my barely knowledgeable mind, were beautiful and seemingly effortless.
It was difficult to see fine differences and adjustments.

one small note: when she made contact with the ball it really sounded different. I do not think this was so much a matter of equipment/glue or not but, more so, speaks to her graceful interaction with the ball.

Receiving knowledge is one thing, if we are even able.
Applying it, another.

I do strongly suspect that we only have the chance of learning from those that know.

Thank You Ms. Huijing Wang.

Not all coaches/instructors are well suited to helping players improve their game without first correcting the basic flaws of their technique.
You might be better served by finding someone who plays a very wiley and strategic game and attempting to get them to teach you how to "play" the opponent rather than getting someone to teach you proper technique.

so get this.

ms. wang wanted to practice with one of the area players tonight at the tournament venue here.  unfortunately, tables werent set up yet, so she ended up coming with him to my place to practice IN MY GARAGE!

2600, 4th ranked woman in US, was ripping all sorts of insane shots in my garage.  It was amazing, and I even got to practice chopping against her 1/8 speed loops :).
