So I am just curious as to how much everyone spends during a year on TT. I have only been playing again for about 10 months and just added everything up (blades, rubbers, glue, shipping, rec center membership, etc.) and it's over $600!!! In 10 months!!!
Maybe I should have just bought 1 very expensive blade and 1 set of very expensive rubbers and called it a year (and saved money)! But then again, where's the fun in that?!?!

Please don't ask me to add it up. I might see the figure, then jump off a bridge or be thrown off by my g/f. |

$200 in 4 months.
However, I tried out lots of different types of rubbers, but now found the combination I like the most, so I now have the same combo on my two blades. |

I/my parents spend about $50 a month on tournament entery fees $600 a year, I get most of my equipment for free but I still end up spending about $50 a month on extra stuff I really dont need $600, club membership is $50 a month $600, and coaching is $50 a week $2500 a year so you can figure that, plus airfair and hotel to 3 major tournaments a year is around $2,000 and petrol/train tickets my family is spending a total $6500 a year on table tennis for me to play at a relatively high level, but im prolly getting around $2000 a year of that back from equipment sales and doing a little coaching myself I use that money to pay my share in the costs of playing.....

Let's see - about $160 on the rubbers for the last half-year or so, and approximately $270 on the blades, so that's $430. Then around $140 on various accessories like bag, balls, clicky press, glue, Tibhar CTE... I am not counting here the money I spent on sneakers because they are not TT-specific...
The thing is that I am more or less done with spending money on blades so from now on it will be about $120 annually on rubbers and about $100 on accessories - balls, protection sheets, glue and CTE, etc. Oh, yeah - entry fees for the tourneys... gas... etc... I am not sure if that needs to be counted here. If you do count all that, then you probably need to take into account the amount of money you are NOT spending on buying weight-loss pills or money you are NOT paying for fixing your health problems and other similar things... So I'll just stick to the equipment. |

Good point there JimT! Just on a side note, I've dropped almost 50lbs playing tt this past year. Picked up the game for almost 2 1/2 years now and started really playing 5-6 times a week since the past year. As for last annual expenditure: 3-4 tournaments > $100 per tournament = $400 Blades: TBS2x = $200 DHS Rubbers 350x+= ........... Yea....... LoL Plane Ticket to get to China and back 2x > $800 per ticket = $1600 Total: $2200+ !?!?!?!?! (h3/h2/tg3/tg2)^350 Analysis: .... I think I spent a bit too much? |

i think if it's the first year of playing, and starting to get serious, one would spend quite a decent amount, but after you've settled down with a setup, you'd stick with it for years, only replacing the rubbers every couple of months. i'd estimate on average, 1st years spending would be close to 600 to 1000, after that, under 200 per year. obviously this wouldn't be the case for tommyzai, =P

1) $1.5 per time including entrance fee and Coke x 300 days/ year = $450
2) 3 x 729 Pre-made, Energy Wood, Kreanga Carbon, Allround Classic, Clipper, 2 x Power 40 = $450/3 years = $150. 3) 4 x Magna, 1 x Higher, 6 x Globe 999, 1 x Sriver FX, 1 x Juic 999 = $300/3 years = $100 4) Clothes, shoes, balls...= $80 5) CDs, DVDs, books = $60/ 3 years = $20 6) Internet download fees = $20/month x 12 = $240 7) TT class = $210/3 years = $70 8) $900 re-take univ. class due to lack of attendance checks (went out for TT)/ 3 years = $300 9) Competition fees = $80 Total, let me see: $1,490 Oh man. That's a freaking expensive sport. My God, I've never expected this number. Return: A lot of pals, health (3 years, no sickness whatsoever), a little bit more good looking, lots of wisdom...mostly abstract, invisible things. Thanks for giving me a chance to look back. I'm so lazy and don't expect to do the above things unless there is a chance like this. Oh, TT = T_T. So expensive. |

But you also get to deduct all the money you made back by selling it, tommyz. I haven't sold anything, so no deductions for me.
It's good to know I'm not alone in spending on the sport.
