I'm a solid 1500-1600 player with nice strokes. I play a forehand dominated game but can open a rally with a backhand loop. I've slowly improved after two years of obsessive playing. It just seems like yesterday I couldn't generate any underspin on my serves or loop anything over.
My biggest goal for TT is to become a 2000 player but there are so many things I need to improve. I think it's time that I focused on my footwork. People say I can move quite quickly but sometimes I find myself with sloppy footwork. I see the pros and they practically glide and move so elegantly around the table. I've seen the Chen Qi highlights video of him doing shuffle stepping drills. I tried it myself and was amazed at how heavy my footwork was. Plyometrics I guess. If there's two things I really want to excel in. It's to have an excellent forehand and swift intelligent footwork. Do any of you guys know footwork drills that I can work with other people or work by myself? I have a robot at home so I can practice step 1 and step 2 of Falkenberg but if I want to foreside hits (step 3 of Falkenberg I need a good consistent blocker). Any ideas? |

play with stronger opponents, and ask them not to hit it so heavily that you can't even see the ball, but instead make you running:_D

One of the best way to improve your footwork is to workout with an agility ladder. The agilty ladder drills are mainly used for soccer and football but it will be great to improve your kwickness.
Just go Google with "agilty ladder drills" and you will find plenty. There are even some very well demonstrated on Youtube.
After 2 weeks of practice, you will be called Fancy Feet!
