Yes, I have actually seen the movie.  It is a heart-warming story about a young Chinese-American (Christopher "C-Dub" Wang) struggling to find his true identity.  Like a coin, he has two sides: one, a basketball player wannabe, rapper wannabe, Ebonics-talkin', street thug wannabe.  On the other side, he is surrounded by a loving family who embraces their Chinese tradition which includes gossipy Asian moms, a high regard for success (his brother is a doctor AND a community center TT multi-champion) and a very Confucius-centric father.  Throw a little Asian hottie in the mix and you got yourself a nice little movie.

Chris, or C-Dub as he prefers to be called, is not so different from many Asian young adults in American society (or is the movie in Canada? Oh well).  If you look at American history, with the immigration of the Germans, Irish, Italians, Poles, Russians, etc, many of these people have enjoyed one great thing that many Asians can't or at least can't easily do: that is to call themselves "American" without people batting an eye or having a slightly look of surprise on their face.  Of course, an Eastern European back then, for example, could just change their name or "Americanize" their name and he could call himself American and people would embrace that or at least not have some kind of doubt.  So absolutely, years and years of this "um, you don't look American" really has had an impact on generations of Asians including Chris.  I believe this movie addresses this in a subtle way.

However, the movie did throw a curveball by adding a black guy who wants to speak Chinese (not sure if it's Mandarin or Cantonese).  So hey, it's a nice movie.  I have to be honest though.  I just watched it on youtube.

I watched it through Netflix. It's not going to win an Academy Award, but it was funny. If you're looking for good table tennis scenes, forget it. An alternate title could be "My Big Fat Chinese Table Tennis Tournament".

The outtakes were hilarious: "monkey steals peach" and "crane eats frog".

I have the Blu-Ray version on my computer which I got from my.. *cough* private sources *cough*
I really like this video and I really look up to it. The only thing I don't like is that Harcourt guy and his "slave". Harcourt looks like a gay and that slave of his looks dumb and repeats what Harcourt says. That would certainly piss anyone off. I did when I was in school.
I certainly had a great funny time watching this DVD everyday. I seem addicted to Smith Cho lol. She looks way hotter than Maggie Q. Maggie is a bit skinny don't you think?
I have the OST available for download if anyone wants.

I watched it a long while ago, also, when it was entirely on youtube.

DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOWER YOUR I.Q 20 points.  :P

You can't expect the same watching a commercial movie( that's made to entertain ) and a real sports tournament. I like the movie in it's own way. Others may disagree-as in millions other movies. Love is in the eyes of the beholder. The movie is made for the average public , not a competitive table tennis player wanting to "steal" some shots from a TT pro.
