I just can't bring myself to spend the $30+shipping. I'd rather waste my money on blades and girls.

I want to revisit an inverted rubber that is good for a blocking game with good control, decent speed, and decent spin. What's out there that might work? I've tried IQ. it's nice, but it's not the same. Cole has recommended one of the Gambler line, which I might try. I was just wondering if anyone else out there found a less expensive, possibly better alternative to Butterfly Sriver!!

FIGHT THE POWER!

WHY PAY $30?

I'm also thinking that I'll be living in China soon. I want to use local gear, not be forced to order Japanese stuff whilst in China. I think that would be SAD. Plus, if I win matches, I want to beat them with their rubbers. I don't want to be the rich guy from America who can afford the "good" stuff. There must be a Chinese rubber that will do what Sriver does. After all, unglued Sriver doesn't do anything that special, does it?

I think that the newer version of 729 FX Super Soft(the one with similar packaging to the Cross Series rubbers) is very similar to Sriver, if not 1 step behind. I tried it on my J-Pen set-up and most my balls acts like being banged by a Sriver. Most of it lands on the backwall Embarrassed

I don't think GST is almost the same as Sriver EL... Kokutaku Tuple 007 (German Sponge) i think is closer to EL than the GST.

Oh no . . . how can I choose?
I'll end up spending 10X what a Sriver cost to compare these candidates. No wonder players give up and just rebuy.

HELP!!!!

SXZY and IQUL is pretty similar to Sriver EL, although I'd much rather just use the Sriver. Yea... once your in China... Authentic Butterfly products are a bit too pricey...

Man you can't go wrong with Sriver. Kim Taek Soo used it all of his career. He had arguably the best forehand ever.
Butterfly Viscaria FL
FH: Black DHS Neo Hurricane 3 Blue Sponge National
BH: Red Butterfly Tenergy 80

Footwork and forehand is always the answer.

IQUL is very similar in my opinion!

I think that the 2.2 35 degree version would be very similar to sriver el while the 40 degree comes closest to regular sriver

For 16 bucks IQUL works better for my bh than the sriver el i used before

I heard the six shooter was similar from Cole. I tried it and thought it was sort of like it... but not entirely like the sriver EL i remember.

i just tried a reactor rubber from Mel and was amazed with it on my blade...it was probably a bit too hard, but it was nice. They are 12 bucks and I was surprised at how well 12 dollars plays. anyway, why not just wait till you get to china to buy some rubber? maybe buy one or two sheets of sriver and just use them up, then worry about it when you have gone through those two? i mean, by the time you burn through 2 srivers while there, you will have gone up about 200-300 points just from playing IN china!!!

ps what about 729 cream?

From all the suggestion above, I think 729 Higher is the best recommendation. But instead of Higher III I would recommend 729 Higher on Green Transcend Sponge (Higher I???).
I used Sriver back in the days. One day, I don't bring a bat on one of my practice. I borrow my mate's bat with Higher on Transcend on it. It was pretty good, i have no trouble adjusting to it. Plus it has decent speed even when unglued. The spin is a bit better that your serve and loop will have more spin..

Cheers TZai..

Just my two cents. Reactor Ckylin is very simular to Butterfly Sriver. Just a regular Sriver. It is not tacky with very good control and speed. Spin is maybe weaker compared to Sriver but...

"why not just wait till you get to china to buy some rubber?"

If it's chinese rubber, then yeah it's best to wait and buy them in China, if you buy in bulk and you're willing to bargain everything down.

As Russell Peters said, "Indian's cannot live without a bargain, and Chinese cannot give you a bargain. Their objective is to get every penny from you, and ours (Indians) is to keep every penny."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtbyVFLl_7U

LoL. Just thought it was hilarious. Enjoy

If it's japanese/european rubber, don't buy it in China. You're better off buying it in the USA.
