I've heard a lot of good things about the darker series, I'm looking for a chinese penhold version to find out myself, does anyone have any experience with the penhold versions? Is it good for rpb and how does it compare to the avalox wooden blades? I'm a close to midrange looper, there are different types which one would you recommend? If you have one, let me know!

I have two Darkers, one is Speed 90 (9mm), and compared to Cypress, the grain is more dense and straight and it is nicer to hold as it is (prior to shaving). It has decent speed and soft feeling.
The second is 7P2A Carbon CHN. The blade is a bit smaller than other brands, the carbon plies are positioned more towards the center, and I don't really like this one because it is slow.
Until now I still prefer my Violin C.
Note: I don't do RPB, and I am not a good reviewer, but I hope above informations will help you a bit.

thanks, 9mm seems to be somewhat thick for rpb. How thick is your 7P2A?

hey, 7p-2a would be a great choice, except i didnt like the neck where your fingers sits on penhold. i'll suggest kokutaku staysher. theres a black paintsheet on the back of it, but it doesnt really matter. you can still stick a rubber on it and play with it like alot of the penholders here.

I've got a speed 50 pen. Nice soft, fast and little or no vibration at all. RPB on a thick 1 ply hinoki is the last thing you wanna do.

The Violin grows on you alot, but I've heard that the custom blades that Visse makes are comparable. They're ironically a lot cheaper as well!
