Six players including Ma Lin, Hao Shuai, Wang Li Qin, Ma Long, Wang Hao, and Zhang Chao had been qualified for Zagreb through the previous two stages. Among them, Ma Lin, Hao Shuai and Wang Li Qin were qualified for singles. Chinese man's team will send around ten players to Zagreb. Other things are not decided yet.

High quality videos from bokett.com (rmvb-format):

Round 1 - "semi finals"

Wang Jianjun (Korean style penholder) vs Xu Xin (lefthanded penholder with reverse backhand)

Note 1: Wang Jianjun is the "Korean penholder imitation player" of the Chinese team, so he has been present at the latest Olympics and World Championships - but only as a practise player. Last year he came very close to qualifying for the World Team Championships in Bremen, but lost to Wang Liqin in the final of one of the qualification tournaments after blowing big leads in all the three games which he lost... Unhappy

Note 2: Xu Xin, 17, is apparently one of the top Chinese prospects for the future. He has a very smooth and mature game with great touch and control. Definately one to look out for... Smile

Li Ping (righthanded shakehander) vs Xu Hui (righthanded penholder with reverse backhand)

Note 1: Li Ping (born 1986) has played a couple of pro tour tournaments, but other than that he is pretty unknown internationally.  For a Chinese player he has a very strong backhand topspin - also over the table.

Note 2: Xu Hui (born 1983) is also relatively unknown. Like Wang Jianjun and Ryu, his footwork is very fast and fluent. Looks like he uses some Yasaka blade.

Zhou Bin (lefthanded shakehander) vs Lei Zhenhua (righthanded shakehander)

Note 1: Zhou Bin (born 1988) is same age as Ma Long. He played one pro tour last year, where he actually beat both Ryu Seung Min and Oh Sang Eun. Many of the upcoming young Chinese players at the moment are lefthanders - maybe they are pushing more lefthanders now?

Note 2: Lei Zhenhua (born 1986) has been doing well in the Chinese super league during the last seasons. Compared to the other Chinese players, he doesn't seem that well coordinated, but he sure looks physically strong.

Lin Chen vs Zhang Jike

Round 2 - "finals"

Li Ping vs Xu Xin

Note: Another strong performance by Xu Xin

Zhang Jike vs Lei Zhenhua

No Hou Yingchao?  I thought I read somewhere that he qualified even with his relatively poor showing in the trials.

What does "replaced" mean ;)?  If they are taking a couple young, unproven kids over Hou, does that mean he is done for good?

yea the chinese team seriously need a good penholder lefty and i think they've found one. i have a feeling that they are going to use Chen Qi and Xu Xin as double's partner. there's supposed to be this other kid who got into the national team where he is considered as the next liu guoliang.
