Liang Jingkun sure lost a lot of matches in China Trials early this year, but look at his wins.

That makes me think when he gets to the Main Draw, he can kick some asses there (not all of them of course).

seems like all the high-ranking seeds only go to the big tournaments. But still again, Chinese  will dominate this sport again for may be next decade Cry

Off topic.

There are many World Tours that China doesn t play, when they do play they only send a few players.  (Chinese players don t get much chance to play on the world stage, that s why Feng Yalan lost her world ranking.  In time, Yu Ziyang will lose his world ranking too.)

Japan plays just about all the World Tours, they usually send many players, a few times Japan sends a plane-load of players. (Japanese players got more chance to play.)
(e.g.  Czech Open, Japan sent 38 players - more than the host country which entered only 28 players. Btw, China didn t play Czech Open.)

I see you have brought this up multiple times, skip.  I guess it is time to address that.  According to the media, Japan is trying to give their players as much exposure as possible.  They are taking this very seriously and really want to take home the gold at Tokyo 2020.  In response, the JOC has poured tons of money into table tennis.  The JTTA is now spending 300 million yens(~US $2.6 million) every year.  They are also imitating the Chinese state-program in that all players study and train together at the national center, with all expenses taken on by the government.

Looks like Ma Long is not going to play the Pro Tour Grand Finals this year.  Smart decision or wrong decision?

Actually, it looks like none of the top Chinese players are going to make it!

After losing to ZJK and FZD recently, Ma Long might have to adjust himself. If he keeps playing like this, he might not be in LGL s list for 2016 olympic and that is probably his last chance to win an Olympic gold.

Barthel?
This was a great signature until I realised it was overrated.

Feng Yalan & Gu Yuting advanced to the Main Draw. Not surprising.
Before they lost their world ranking, ITTF ranked them as #13 and #39.
==================

Ratings Central ranked these two female players behind the top 3 seeds, but ahead of the other 29 seeds.

Barthel Zarif...what a weird match, in the second game..Zarif won something like 9 points in a row and in the third Barthel did nearly the same. Both players are not very consistant. I Know Zarif, this is a very dangerous player.

It s 3-3 now. When you allow close games, anything can happen. Lundqvist needs to attack Hung"a serve but he lacks a modern backhand. Luckily for Jens, Hung has issues with the reverse serve.
Edit: Hung s serve goes long at the worst possible moment.

Women s drawing is out:

Li Jiao (seed) will play Feng Yalan, and Ishigaki Yuka (seed) will play Gu Yuting

These two seeds are screwed in their first match.

Looks like he will advance to the Main Draw.
Ahead 3 - 0 against Cantero.

Cantero won 1 game, now it is 3 - 1.
Cantero won another game, now it is 3 - 2.
Liao is still ahead, but Cantero is coming back.

Liao won:  4 - 2.  Advanced to the Main Draw.

Yeah their best athletes play soccer and baseball I think. Their current generation has no chance for gold. If they spend that money to attract some of the young talents from those major sports, they might have a chance in 20 years.

The Japanese are well aware of that.  They now have experts formulating specific training regimens and diet plans for their players to close that gap.  Nonetheless, Ishikawa has said that the job of beating the Chinese is nigh impossible for her and that they have their sights set on the future generation, namely Miu Hirano and Mima Ito.  They also plan to resort to naturalized Chinese citizens, among them are 11-year-old Tomokazu Harimoto, 13-year-old Yu Kayama, 16-year-old Yui Hamamoto, whose parents were once CNT players.

I don t think Ahmet Li can give Eugene Wang much trouble.

It is the next match against Fan Zhendong, Eugene will have problems.
Then again, FZD sometimes plays like shit.

Hugo Calderano did well with this new plastic ball, interesting to see how far he can go.

2 or 3 weeks ago he beat a player he would never have dreamed to be able to beat using the old celluloid ball.
